Shipping a gift card?

I'm new to selling - so far I've printed labels and sent items with tracking ID. ebay releases my funds once the item is delivered.

I was wondering could I send an item without tracking ID? I just sold a gift card and I'd like to just send it in a regular envelope without tracking ID. Should I do this? How will ebay confirm I actually shipped the item in this case?

Thanks

Yes, you can send an item without tracking ID; but it's a send-at-your-own-risk thing, so if your buyer claimed that they never received the gift card and demanded a refund for mail loss, sending with regular letter mail means you forfeit seller protection, so you must refund in full to the buyer. The only way for eBay to know that you did send the item is by supplying a tracking number to eBay.

How much is the value of the gift card? If the value is very high then I wouldn't take the risk. You're also a relatively new seller so to some dishonest buyers, you might appear to be an easy target. What is your buyer's feedback history like? Any indications about them seeking refunds often?

If there is no tracking,  you can manually mark your item as shipped and ebay will take the hold off of the funds 7 days after the estimated delivery date.

You could also send as a registered letter for an additional 9.50  plus the cost of the stamp. Just manually update the tracking after shipping. Call it the cost of doing business for added piece of mind along with slightly quicker delivery time.

Correct for within Canada, but for USA and international Registration is Proof of Mailing, not Proof of Delivery.

Both eBay and Paypal require proof of delivery in Not Received disputes.

Domestically, Registered Mail is Proof of Delivery.

It is my understanding that eBay does not consider domestic registered mail as having Proof of Delivery, because : foreign.

So we are back to Expedited and ExpressPost to be covered.

ExpressPost USA costs $27.75 for an envelope weighing between 50-100 grams.

Expedited is a little cheaper but doesn't show with that link.
