Hi Everyone!

Fall Seller Update is here! You can read more about it here, and please leave any questions you have about the update as a reply below. I'll be working on both boards today (.CA and .COM) so replies will be delayed, especially as I will need to run it up to a lot of different experts!

One more easy one for you from a Canadian/Foreign perspective.

Re:

New eBay International Shipping service

We handle international shipping complexities for you so you can focus on selling more and stressing less.

eBay International Shipping is a new shipping service that removes the challenges and complexities associated with international shipping for US sellers. eBay International Shipping keeps all of the benefits of the Global Shipping Program that you’re already familiar with, such as shipping to a US hub and “Item not received” and feedback protections.

In addition to maintaining all of the great benefits offered in the Global Shipping Program, eBay International Shipping provides greater simplicity and offers even more value by:

  • Handling returns and refunds on your behalf
  • Eliminating the international fee
  • Offering lower shipping costs to buyers
  • By the end of the year, we will allow buyers to choose when they want to pay import charges, up front at checkout or upon delivery

When this program is implemented will buyers see an actual shipping cost prior to completing a purchase vs estimated. This can be a make or break when it comes to purchasing from a US seller. Just thinking, the best surprise is no surprise. Will shipping prices actually come down? Don't believe that is covered directly with the US announcement. It does mention that this will done in phases with automatic enrollment to the switchover from GSP and the new program. Lastly, how will it be clarified that this is what the buyer is getting vs the other entities? Will the details of this new version be clearly expressed before buyer hits buy? This has caused the bulkload of the problems since GSP and International Standard was implemented.

@lotzofuniquegoodies I heard back from our specialist and they said:

"Among the objectives of eBay International Shipping are to (1) decrease shipping costs for buyers and (2) provide buyers with greater transparency on the import charges associated with their purchase. As part of the rollout, eBay International Shipping costs have been set at prices below the market competitive. In regards to transparency on import charges, the current checkout experience informs buyers that import charges may be applicable, but (outside of GSP) it doesn't give them an idea of what they may be. As a result, we are working on incorporating the ability to show buyers the import charges for all shipments as part of the check out experience. From there, buyers will be able to choose either they want to pay the import charges during checkout or upon delivery. If the buyers choose to pay them at checkout, eBay will guaranteed the final cost and buyers will not be required to pay additional fees upon delivery. However, if the buyer elects to pay import charges upon delivery, the import charge amount shown during checkout will only be an estimate and may be subject to change based upon the determination of customs in their country."

Seller Update Questions Thread!

I believe I know the answer but the wording in the announcement confuses me.

This is in regards to the France EPR.

It is clear that items listed on .FR have to comply.

It is not clear (to me at least) whether items listed on other sites like .COM and .CA have to comply if purchased by a buyer in France.

The wording in the announcement says "business sellers who sell in, or into, France", but I am not clear if this means via .FR or via ANY eBay site.

I'm assuming it is like Germany and doesn't matter what site it comes from but I am wanting to confirm that.

THX For your help!

I sure would like the opportunity to change my payments from US $ to Canadian $.  When I first signed up, I didn't realize it was one or the other.   I have 2 accounts that pay out in US $ and one account pays out in Canadian $.

Seller Update Questions Thread!

It is my understanding that it matters not where listings are, as this is isn't about what eBay site one lists on, this encompases any selling site, any sellers that ship to France, just the same as the German packaging act for Germany...and other countries that are getting on board with this enviromnmental compliance.

Hi @ricarmic! Just as @mrdutch1001 shared for the France EPR no matter where the item is listed the seller will have to comply if they are selling to a buyer in France.

Hello Devon,

There is other major criteria when it comes to the customs taxes and fees. In the past majority of shipments that were very low value in many cases the charge was waived. If it was billed the customs processing charge was ( I believe 9.95 CAD). With GSP it was almost automatic with a slightly different handling charge being applicable. Buyers will need to know upfront how an item is being shipped and the customs handling charge that is in play. Or they will be nervous to even consider this as an option.

In the end it will depend on if eBay is using an outside sources for final leg delivery vs USPS...Canadapost. Does eBay know what services they will be using for last leg? Will they have access to CP which gets items delivered to either home delivery, hold for pickup or a community mailbox? Using an outside delivery service is what caused the majority of problems for GSP transactions. The standard was toss on front step or leave in lobby and dash. A delivery is not really complete until it is in the buyers actual hands.

Seller Update Questions Thread!

The multitude of complaints about GSP and AppleExpress as a last mile carrier seem to have been replaced by a multitude of complaints about eBay International Shipping and GSP using Intell as last  mile carriers for both.

Are these complaints being forwarded to GSP and EIS?

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies! I heard back from a specialist and this is what they said:

"eBay is contracting with a variety 3rd party carriers to provide shipping services for the final leg delivery. eBay International Shipping will determine the selection of the carrier and shipping service for a given transaction based upon the optimization of the experience for the buyer. Canada Post will be one of the final leg delivery partners considered in the carrier selection process. For shipments to Canada specifically, one of example of the routing optimization is that we will route packages through Canada Post when your buyer chooses to pay import charges upon delivery."
