Seller is not picking up package at customs (INAD Return)

What happens when a seller does not pick up their return package that is currently in international fedex customs during a INAB Return case?

Context:

Seller sold me a high value item but it was not as described. eBay stepped in for the INAD case and ebay provided me a fedex return label from the seller. While the seller did provided the label, the address is to another country and not their own home address (per the original shipping label). I advised ebay about this but they indicated to follow through with the return label which I obliged.

Now for the last 5days, it is stuck in customs. Fedex called me for the recipient number and luckily it was provided by the seller on their original shipping label and I provided to it to fedex. I have done all I can on my end and ebay still does not want to release my refund until it is delivered. Highly doubt the seller will pick up their item at customs.. at another country.

What will ebay do in this case?

I suggest you get in touch with eBay via either the Facebook or Twitter online chat links (they’re at the bottom of most eBay pages) for advice on this as this is going to be out of the wheelhouse of most of the outsourced phone staff. With chat, you’re going to get an eBay staff member who can help you better or refer you to someone who can. (Perhaps you did this earlier, but I’m not sure.)

I’m guessing the problem might be that the return label didn’t indicate that the item was merchandise being returned to what presumably is the item’s country of origin and as it’s a high-value item, somebody on the receiving end has decided that taxes and duty need to be paid by whoever is receiving it.

Not something every consumer would know, but if the return is marked "Returned merchandise" the seller does not pay duty or sales tax.

The social media accounts are covered by employees, not by subcontractors like the phone.
