ebay chargeing tax on tax exempt .999 bullion.. Any luck getting the tax money back??

so ebay just charged me tax, on a tax exempt item.. .999 fine silver bar. I see lots of posts complaining about this, but has anyone had any luck getting this over charge refunded, and if so .. How.

thanks in advance.

It seems to be a matter of contacting eBay customer service. I’d suggest one of the online chat options.

Charged you? Or charged your customer?

When we are charged incorrectly on imports (or when we are returning an imported item) we have to contact the CBSA ourselves.

It may be the same for sales taxes, which are charged to the buyer incorrectly.

This is not the first time this question has come up, both here and on dotCOM.
I haven't seen any answers though, except that it is the buyer's responsibility to correct  the transaction with the government, not eBay's.

devon@ebay   What steps has eBay taken to correct this error in programming? It seems to be pervasive.

eBay had similar issues in the US when they started collecting US State Sales Tax, it took a couple of months but I believe the issue was resolved there.

Some of these issues still arise when things are listed in the wrong Category or sub-Category.

Contrary to what @femmefan1946 posted it is absolutely a matter that eBay needs to resolve for you and they likely will if you contact them.

Hi @femmefan1946! I will need to reach out to a specialist for this but once I have some more information I will update you on this.

Re: ebay chargeing tax on tax exempt .999 bullion.. Any luck getting the tax money back??

i purchased tax exempt silver .999 bars, and i was charged tax on the entire purchase. i should have only been charged tax on the shipping.. Please tell me how to get the money refunded?? and ebay needs to fix the problem,,. this has to be hurting so many sellers.. First thing my seller asked me was did i want to cancel the purchase.. seller's are losing business , because ebay can't figure out a simple work around to an issue they should have known about as it was introduced in the usa ..almost 3 years ago.

Did you contact eBay as I previously advised?

Even if Devon comes back with "information" he can't do anything about getting you a credit/refund other than having you contact eBay customer support.

Just out of curiosity what specific category was it listed in?
