In 1999 I with others set up pirate radio station called DRK RADIO.

It was great fun and lasted for about one year.

There was some great djs playing blues to rock pop and a bit of everything.

The djs names were in code so the powers that be did not know who we were.

There was the silver fox

The hairy man

Dj hacker

Billy the kid

Togge

Chris Carroll

And many more.

What I would like to do now is start it again on this board.

You be the dj and find the music video you want to play on YouTube and post a link on here.

You can also post a video of you talking about the song you picked if you like.

And the next posted do the same.

I will get the ball rolling

This was the very first song played at live aid.

Not a great song, but we have to start with something.

Can you do better, please join in.

I miss Janis.  She had a voice that cut right through to your soul.  One of my faves:

There are two many.  I worked in radio in the late 60's and got to meet and listren to some great musicians.  I remember a backstage jam with Jefferson Airplane.  It was ten times better than the concert.

Another guy I really get off on:

Gheesh…..I haven’t heard Tracy Chapman in a long while. Thanks for the reminder. Her music came from her conscience.

LOL…… dashboard lights…… banned at one time on certain radio stations. I think it had something to do with the play at home plate! (and I thought it was all about baseball)

Listening to the McCalmans makes me want to order a Guinness.

Manhattan Transfer…..a ‘cool’ group. They ventured into Jazz in the mid 70’s. I really enjoy jazz. Years ago there was a small jazz bar on the second floor of a larger bar and I often enjoyed going there in the evenings into the darkness of the ‘cave’, order a rusty nail… and just enjoy.

I really sunk into jazz when I heard free or progressive jazz done by the famous John Coltrane ….  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpZHUVjQydI&feature=related

Texas blues….taken too soon….. Stevie Ray ….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlQLy-CafsE

Standing outside this morning as the sun rose behind the clouds I heard my rooster crow. Reminded me of this blues tune by the blues legend Big Mama Thornton  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycw4uaXPRU

Hey all,

What a great idea, and so many wonderful links already.

When I was growing up my sister was all about the Beatles and April Wine, for me it was Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, anything bluesy or what is now considered to be "classic rock".

Now I also love jazz, big band, and the "crooners".

Here are a couple of tunes I love.

And something from one of our lost Canadian treasures. I love Jeff in all his incarnations, blues, jazz and rock.

Jeff also does a wonderful cover of "while my guitar gently weeps". I regularly have one of his discs in my CD player.

Thanks for the link to the Weird Al ebay song, I laughed out loud through the song, I have never heard it before, very funny.

Cheers! Heather

Welcome to DRK RADIO

"Are you lonesome tonight? Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day?
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?

Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain? Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight

I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each must play a part
Fate had me playing in love with you as my sweet heart

Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/e/elvis-presley-lyrics/are-you-lonesome-tonight-lyrics.html]
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to change, you acted strange
And why? I've never known

Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than I go on living without you

Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you won't come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down

Is your heart filled with pain? Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight"

Les Misérables is a wonderful novel…….the play…..fantastic! One of my favourite songs is ‘I dreamed a dream’. I’ll put the link here to Susan Boyle’s audition on Britain’s Got Talent because the song speaks of her life. A little woman from a village out in the middle of nowhere…..but the rest is history. She had a dream…she finally got it answered.

Welcome to DRK RADIO

Today's pick. (couldn't find a high quality one, but this one is sort of historical):

I mentioned, in an earlier post, a backstage jam session by Jefferson Airplane.  I have a picture that I took at the time (remember black and white kiddies).  It is a little scratched up.  Shows Paul Kantner, Marty Balin and Grace Slick.
