system would be able to read them and they would be tracked even though

Did you send it Canada Post? I have heard on the US board that USPS
weighs the package at various points along it's trip so I assume CP must
as well? If they do and you can get that info that should tell you at
what point it went missing - if it did ...
and a follow up- follow up, I did indeed receive a cheque directly for
the postage refund! So seems like if you have late Canada Post packages,
even if you bought through eBay, go ahead and claim it directly!
