Does anyone know for certain how i change my country of Registration? Must do before sign up for MP

i originally signed up on Ebay 21 years ago,  in 2000 and as a result, my country of registration is in the US, even though i live in Canada and always have.  Up  until now this has not been an issue, in fact  i didn't even know my country of Registration was in the US.

But it is an issue now.  Before i  sign up for Managed Payments i have to get it switched to Canada.  If i don't i will get the US Managed Payment form which asks for Social Security Number, a US based bank account etc, which i don't have, of course.

I  have been told i must talk to a Managed Payment team specialist in order to get my country of Registration changed properly, but i can't call that department until i have signed up for Managed Payments.  A Catch 22.

Is there some way to get it switched that will work for sure?  I'm fighting the clock here somewhat because my listings are all going to be removed on June 15 and i have to wait for 48 hours  after i get my country of Registration changed before i  can sign up for Managed Payments.

Help appreciated.

@ricarmic, you went through “the change”.  Can you offer @fergua3 some advice?

I called in to the CSRs.

I had to use a different reason because if you say "managed payments" it gives you a message that you need to call back during business hours - I was calling during business hours each time and had to make up something else each time to get to a CSR. They transferred me to an MP CSR when they couldn't do any more to help.

As a side note, I don't know for 100% sure one has to be Canadian site registered. I've noticed since the change that when I click on the .COM email it took me to a .CA screen when I hit register, but this was AFTER they changed my ID to Canadian registered.... I got the idea one had to be Canadian registered from another thread here.....

ah, i see.  Thanks for the tip.  I don't want to click on the link to sign up yet in case i get directed to the US sign up screen.  I'm afraid once i do i'll get stuck there and have a mess that will take weeks to fix.

My gut tells me if i click on the register link i will get directed to the Canadian sign up screen.  But i'm unwilling to gamble.

So i guess there's nothing to lose by calling in and getting my registration transfered over to Canada.  Nothing to lose but time and time and time and hassle.  You haven't noticed any adverse consequences from changing your country of Registration, right?  Your .com store and listings are still unaffected?

Hi! @fergua3

Hey try an experiment, if you try to relist an item you should get a message that has a link to the Canadian registration page, it is for me at least, but again it is after they switched my identity so to speak.

So far nothing has changed at all except I'm still showing as having the countdown on the US side. Nothing has changed on the selling, relisting etc aspect so far.

PS I am worried that because my store is a .COM store, my troubles are not over. I may be misremembering but I think you are in the same boat?

yes i've had that link when i try to relist as well.  It's why i said in some other thread that i had a hunch my country of Registration had already been switched to Canada.   But maybe it hasn't and that is the best way to be sure i get the Canadian sign up screen.  It seems a safe bet......unless it redirects me to the US sign up.

I'd really prefer not to call in and change anything.  Very afraid of unintended consequences or the very likely error being made.   And yes, I am in the same boat as you.  Mostlly sell on .com and have a .com store..

DId you click on the register link PRIOR to phoning in to have your country of Registratin changed?   I don't mind clicking on it so long as i'm not locked into the US page if it redirects me.  i guess i could always click on it and if it redirects me then call in.   How can they end all my listings when it is their sign up that's not working properly?

@fergua3

No I don't think I relisted anything before it was changed, if I did, I didn't pay attention to what site it said in the link.

If you click on the link it will take you to a .CA page on the link and that registration should be a .CA one?

My problem was the original email took me to a .COM page...I never noticed the relist link until after they changed the country of registration....

Your site of registration and your address are different.

Like you I am registered on eBay.com but I have a Canadian address and an ancient eBay account.  The link I was sent took me to the .com site and then I got to choose USD or CDN dollar account, and input my bank data.

Now its not working yet and the micopayments haven't been sent by eBay - but that is the process.

Some people were registered on the .ca and have two choices also - they go through the .ca side of the gate.

We would all like to think that eBay would not punish a seller for something that is not the seller's fault. Apparently, however it appears they are doing exactly that. My guess is they are in way over their head trying to implement this for Canadian sellers so they have decided to just bury their head in the sand and hope for the best. Which makes little sense to me. They implemented this system on the .com almost a year ago. Surely US sellers aren't still going through all the same hassles, are they? And if they are why in the world are they still selling if that is the case.  Everyone seems to tell us to be calm and they will work out the kinks. Well they said about the shopping cart years ago and it still doesn't work right for combining items sometimes. Why should this be any different? Another member on a different board commented that considering the volume on eBay, they felt eBay is doing a good job. Really? Sorry not buying that. I can list numerous changes they have made in the past 15 years which are not going well. We can just add this to that list.

Just make certain to have a USD Canadian bank account before choosing USD as your payout currency!

I do not event recall choosing it but my payout currency is USD and I do not have a USD Canadian bank account so no payouts for me, my funds are stuck in a limbo untill I get a Canadian bank USD account or untill next year when I will be able to change my Payout currency.

I will also loose 4.5% of my total sales gross revenue (3% of what I sell in .com (50%) for exchange rate and 6% of what I sell in .ca (50%) for double exchange rate) instead of 1.5% of my total sales gross revenue if my currency payouts was CAD (only 3% off what I sell on .com).
