Why do Canadians have to pay 50 Cents to have international Exposure and Americans Don't have to pay

I want to know why Canadians who HAVE TO ship Internationally, have to pay 50 cents extra fee to have items in Ebay UK, and yet the Americans who ship World wide Dont have to pay, they just show up automatically!  I just figured out that this was going on since my international sales dropped to basically Nothing!

So That means that even though I ship world wide, Nothing is actualy showing up in UK, Germany < Belium etc....and for those Americans who have settings on for ONLY USA, then that leaves us out literally in the cold! just handing over more money to Ebay for listing fees even though the items arnt getting any traffic.

I was told many months ago, maybe even a year..that people who ship WORLDWIDE will have international exposure automatically....which seems to be the case for American sellers only, but then, I just received a  newsletter from Ebay about promoting selling in Russia and Brazil...was that for canadians? or Americans only?

I would like a straight answer to this issue, I want all my extra fees refunded that I had to pay out for international exposure in the past week. I have inquired about this in Ebay Facebook and received the most insane answer for  WHY canadians have to pay...Something about international Laws and regulations...LOL  just comical.

so..Why do Canadians have to pay 50 cent per listing for international exposure..and Americans dont?

By the way, if you check the listing form on eBay.com (USA) you will see that sellers are given the same option as those listing on eBay.ca:

 International site visibility help
eBay UK($0.50)

The "international visibility" fee is the same whether you list on eBay.com or eBay.ca

The key words you have written are "in that section".  Isn't it possible that those items would have shown up if a user were to click on "see all matching items from international sellers"?

Why do Canadians have to pay 50 Cents to have international Exposure and Americans Don't have to pay

Thanks for everyones input, I have heard back from the specialist today and the issue was all within the shipping, I stated I shipped worldwide but apparently that information needs to be more specific, so I guess the way the Ebay .Ca shipping is set up, we need to spend a bit more time and check off the boxes of which specific countrys we will ship to. Theres  a few extra steps , thats all.

Ive tested it out and all my newly relisted Items are showing up in Ebay UK and france, germany...so Now I need to pass this information on to a few other canadian sellers.

Thanks everyone!

Hi! Hey the comment

"I stated I shipped worldwide but apparently that information needs to be more specific, so I guess the way the Ebay .Ca shipping is set up, we need to spend a bit more time and check off the boxes of which specific countrys we will ship to"

creates a question now, (I only list on .com) but does this mean on .com that one has to also check all the "international services" countries like Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Japan Australia and Mexico if one wants to automagically show up?

I checked my stuff and mine only show up (as an international seller) if I put in something that doesn't exist on the site (I tired .UK and .IE) If I search on something that does exist on the local site, mine do not show at all. (This is the same experience that Pierre mentions, that phrase does not exist in .UK land so his stuff shows up as an international seller too)

(The only international services that I "click" so far are Canada and Worldwide so I can't test .CA)

It seems that after you have chosen which specific countrys you will ship to, another box opens up that you need to have as " I will ship to Canada and the following".. then you have the option to click on the countrys you want your items to show up in. UK, Germany France Europe USA etc...

Just having it saying "worldwide" gets you nothing...

Yes, I'm finding that this thread is off as well.

I don't check every box for shipping but I ship worldwide.

My items DO NOT show on the UK site if use the default search options OR search for a very very specific item which no one in my category ever does.

When I spend the 50 cents my items show up in the default search.

Now you're saying that if I check each country individually instead of worldwide that my items will show up?............. (I have to agree:  Total BS.)

Occasionally eBay manipulates the search and a few of my items show up on the UK (or whatever) site using the default search even though I have not paid the 50 cents.

Others may not be as aware of that as I am, but since I search the UK site regularly I am.

When that happens I have a sudden rash of UK (or whatever country) sales.

That leads me to believe that spending the 50 cents might make a difference.

This is not a good time to put it to the test.......... IMO that is.  The summer months are always bring a lull in sales.

Late August or September why not spend an extra $10 or so and put it to the test?

Ooops........... typo:

I meant to say that my items show up on the UK site only if I manipulate the search to include items listed Worldwide OR when I use the default search with a very very detailed and specific search title.

In my category searches are too general to pick my items up with the default search options.............. so the question is how many UK buyers alter the default?

Also........... I noticed that some of the posts above refer to other sites in addition to the Canadian, US, and UK sites.........

but I seem to recall that when I spent my 50 cents that I read it was only for those 3 sites.

I seem to remember a blurb about how they are working on including Germany, France etc., but for now they are not part of the deal.

As mentioned earlier, the title is incorrect as there is no difference in what Americans and Canadians have to pay for 'internaional exposure'

The .50 for international exposure is for the UK site only. LIke others, I've found that paying that amount for specific items means that they will show up on the UK site regular search  rather than under international sellers.

At their discretion, ebay may allow your items to show on other sites in a regular search if there is a shipping cost  listed for that country. However, that is not guaranteed. So, if worldwide shipping is stated, items may show up on the various sites if shipping is set up correctly for those countries.  Changing from woldwide to specific countries will not make your listings more visible on other sites.

For your next batch of listings, it might be an interesting experiment for grins and giggles to list some listings the way the eBay CSR suggested and some as you usually would and see if there is indeed a difference.  Smiley Happy

Hiya! That is a good suggestion, I will try to remember to do that - tomorrow I "vacation" my store for the month of August for my "RICARMIC eBay holiday" (I actually shut down all the online sites) in an effort to try to have a normal life for one month in the year - I will probably only work 40 hours a week this next month! 🙂
