Comic books, shipping , and prices

I would love to buy many more comics then I currently do from e bay,I am looking for comics 1974 or older in VG or higher Marvel or DC superhero or horror comics, however over the past few years almost every seller wants far to much for shipping,  I sell occasionally and know I can mail 5 comics lettermail in Canada for 5.89 that is with cardboard around them in a large envelope, so why are most people asking 13 to 21 dollars if the buyer does not want tracking?

Also I don't know where many get there pricing from ,it used to be the Overstreet Price Guide.

I sit down with my Guide and look around and find pretty much nothing anywhere near Guide with the exception of Funny Animal type books . Oh and lots want US funds .

Why would anyone buy a over Guide comic and 15 dollars shipping on top of that ? If you list a comic for 12 in VG and the Guide lists it at 8 and then 15 dollars for shipping it will be pretty hard to sell.

If anyone selling comics 1974 or older at Guide prices or less with combined reasonable shipping leave me a message here and I will look at your items . Lots of money to spend on reasonable deals Thanks

You can make Offers on the books that interest you, but keep in mind that the Offer cannot include the shipping cost.

So with a $25 budget,  if you see a book at $15 with $15 shipping, you could offer $10 with $15 shipping.

And if you are buying multiple issues, you can discuss combined, discounted shipping.

It's not uncommon for a seller to get a Message giving the items the buyer is interested in and asking for a price including shipping on all of them.

Also I don't know where many get there pricing from ,it used to be the Overstreet Price Guide.

Where did Overstreet get their prices? And isn't it in USD anyway?

so why are most people asking 13 to 21 dollars if the buyer does not want tracking?

Sadly, because too many sellers have learned that the guy who doesn't want to pay tracking is the same guy who will claim the untracked item never arrived.

know I can mail 5 comics lettermail in Canada for 5.89 that is with cardboard around them in a large envelope,

I weighed five comics, bagged and boarded, at 487gr, which could go LetterMail in Canada for $5.47 plus tax, but from the USA to Canada the cheapest rate I got was $22.10 USD.

If you see pricing in USD, you are looking at items listed on dotCOM, since we can't use USD on dotCA.

There may be some confusion there. US sellers often don't know that Canada has a separate rate card from overseas International buyers. And some Canadian sellers may be making the same mistake.

BTW, if you are suggesting the low cost shipping to a US seller do mention that First Class International Package to CANADA does include tracking.  This may help you avoid the hated GSP.  You will still be paying Canadian sales taxes and duty, as well as Canada Post's $9.95 service charge of course.

Canadian sellers list on dotCOM because the US is the largest economy in the world, and everyone in the world goes there to shop, not to dotCA (or dot AU or dotUK ).

One thought, if prices are rising in a hobby, it may be because there are more collectors entering the market. We certainly saw that in our field when the internet allowed stamp collectors who had only seen the stock in one shop or received a couple of gestetnered mail auctions a year suddenly learned what they could buy when the rest of the world opened up to them.
