Refund for buyer

I returned a not working MacBook but the seller has emailed me telling me he fixed it and is mailing it back to me. I told him I wanted a refund and he has stopped communicating. Where should I go from here?

Did he give you a tracking number for the "returned" package?

A laptop is big enough and heavy enough that any service used would have tracking included, whether your seller is inside  or outside Canada .

Use the number to follow the trip to you.

Personally I would allow  20 days for arrival from the shipping date on the parcel, which should also be in the tracking information.

No tracking number?
Assume it has NOT been fixed or returned.

Go to eBay and open a Not As Described dispute.

Include the tracking number you received when you shipped it back to him.

If you already did this, he would have been told to pay for Return Shipping. If you shipped it back yourself, you won't see that money again. Sorry.

Go back to the Dispute and demand a refund.

Note that you want a refund NOT a replacement or a repair.

If he says it is being returned, demand a refund.

If you get the unwanted laptop back, demand a refund.

You can also open a Paypal dispute for 180 days after payment, even if there has already been an eBay dispute.

PP demands that the buyer pays for return shipping.

If you can show that the laptop was delivered to the seller, you can ask PP to step in and Escalate to a Claim.

Note that you want a refund NOT a replacement or a repair.

If the seller does not refund, PP will and go after him for their money.

And as a third layer of Buyer Protection, if you back your PP account with a credit card, you can call the 1-800 number on the card about a chargeback.

did you open a item not as described case, and did you send it back with tracking,  once the item was shown to be received back by the seller your refund, should have been sent to you right away.. that is what you should get.. if you sent it back without opening a case you may want to speak with csr, so you can get your money back.. we need a little more information from you about the details of the return, to further help you out..
