Why can't I cancel an order that hasn't shipped?

I purchased an item that the seller listed as having 5 in stock. After several days of not getting a shipping notification I contcated them asking when will it ship. Turns out they don't have it in stock and ordered it from their supplier and can't say for certain when it will arrive! I tried to cancel my order, but seller had marked it as shipped, so eBay wouldn't let me cancel! I contacted eBay and they said I have to wait until the past delivery date to file a claim! I want this now, it is to replace a broken part! If I had known, I would have ordered from amazon. Why can't ebay cancel this order? The seller clearly has been dishonest.

Do NOT refuse the item when and if it arrives. EBay considers that Undeliverable and the seller is not required to refund Undeliverable shipments.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.

 

You are also covered by your PP account if you used that, but PP also looks at the last estimated date for delivery before allowing a Not Received Claim

Your best bet to get your money back is the credit card you actually paid with, although card policies on chargeback differ.

 

So.

Start by contacting eBay on social media.

Then move to the chargeback if the eBay reps can't help you.

 

Again, if you don't have your refund from any source, do NOT refuse the shipment. In that case, tell the seller to send you return shipping if they want it back.
