Not a good idea.

With a Paypal account backed with a credit card, you have three levels of Buyer Protection.

First eBay's own Money Back Guarantee for 30 days from delivery

Then if that passes (or a claim refused) you have Paypal's Buyer Protection policy for 180 days from payment.

Then if that is refused, you can go to the chargeback policy of the credit card. While card policies vary, that is usually 120 to 180 days from payment.

With a gift card, once you have sent the money (or the card numbers) it's gone and there is no way to get a refund if things go pear-shaped.

Same with debit cards, btw. Those are effectively e-cheques written on your bank accoun and  once cashed the money is gone.

EBay allows payment by Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, Amex, GooglePay and ApplePay.

You could use the gift card to open a Paypal account, then use the PP balance to buy .
