If you don't want Paypal to access your bank account, you can make it "for deposit only". The only drawback is, that you have to actually go into the bank to withdraw your funds. It's a good idea to have a separate account for your ebay activities. Keep in mind, Paypal can always get your money from your credit card, unless your card is expired or maxed out or otherwise unavailable.
