Why do Canadian sellers charge Canadian buyers US funds for purchases instead of Canadian funds?

I just purchased some items from a Canadian seller from my province and notices I was charged in US funds.Is that how paypal works?

PS on ebay we pay in the currency of the listing and PP converts to canadian if necessary.

Hi.. No,  canadian sellers can list in either currency. The prime reason for US is that Canada is a small market compared with the US and american buyers prefer to transact in their own currency.
