Depends on what you are selling.

I can ship most of my products using LetterMail, with no tracking for less than $11.14Cdn*.

Provided that you also are selling items that you are comfortable sending without Tracking, any of these can offer Free Shipping**.

Buyers looooooove Free Shipping.

Most realize they are paying for shipping if they think about it, but hey, it feels like a bargain.

More practically, it is easier for the buyer to see what she is paying when there is only one value on the invoice.

I list on both dotCOM and here  on dotCA.

The dotCOM listings are in US dollars , use LetterMail and Free Shipping.

The dotCA are listings of items that will require Package Rates. They are over 2cm thick or over 500grams. They are also listed in loonies, as required by dotCA.

Rarely I will offer Free Shipping, but upgrade from LetterMail, which actually is pretty fast and always is secure, to add tracking, in which case I am using Package services, most of which are tracked. Either the item is more valuable than I feel comfortable sending without tracking, or I am getting a bad vibe from the customer.  But again, this is rare.

The rate card below will give you shipping costs to the USA. I use 90210 and 32830  as west and east coast zipcodes for basic research.

If your items are bulky or heavy, you are into Parcel Rates  which are almost always tracked. For those you should be using Calculated Shipping, which means using eBayCANADA because with dotCOM you are forced to use Flat Rates.

The problem with Flat Rates (which includes Free Shipping, btw) is that parcel rates not only take in dimensions and weight, but also destination.

Within Canada, sending to the province next door may cost $10 but to the next one over $20. See the chart below.   I use K1A 0A6 to check rates in Ontario (I'm in BC) and A1C 5M2 for NL.

And again. It depends on what you sell. I will happily send collectible stamps or sewing patterns to my customers, because those are being sold to a demographic that actively enjoys following directions. But if I were selling  trading cards, or cell phones, or horse tack, or dolls, I'd be using parcel rates and tracking.

*$11.14 is the rate for shipping a 499gr/cm thick envelope to the USA. More commonly my shipping cost is between $!.30 and $3.19.

** To be clear, Free Shipping is NOT free. You are including your cost of shipping in your asking price.

Which is cheapest:

A $10 with $5 shipping?

A $5 item with $10 shipping?

A $15 item with Free Shipping?
