Is that a normal percentage? I just did my first (and last) sale. Im not an artisan or anything, I just had an item I didnt need anymore and decided to try to sell it on eBay.

A total of 98.45 was paid, with fees of 14.32. plus the shipping. Im left with around 64$, a little over half the value of my item.

Is this percentage of fee normal? I find it quite high.

You sold your item for $80. Do not consider the shipping that you charge ($18.45) as profit. Yes, ebay will put a seller fee on the shipping charged to the buyer but it is not profit. So you are left with $64 on a $80 sale...seems alright to me, Shipping charge are in your account and then out your account when you pay for postal...never consider it as profit

You sold an item 98.45 including shipping

Managed payments FVF are 12.35% if you sold to a Canadian buyer = 12.16

You live in Quebec, so you are charged a first 5% tax on your FVF = 0.61

and then a 9.975% tax on your FVF = 1.21

Basic fee of 0.30

12.16 + 0.61 + 1.21 + 0.30 = 14.28

The fees quoted in the previous post are for sellers who use PayPal, your listing shows that you are using Managed Payments so the rates are different.  Your fees would be 12.35% on the total received including shipping and taxes if applicable.  If the buyer was in the US an extra .4 international fee would be added on. There is also a .30 transaction fee.

Sounds a bit low. I usually allow 20% although that is definitely high.

Your customer paid $98.45?

Your selling fee (FVF) would be 10.2% of that

But it depends on the category.

FVF can be as little as 0% or as high as 12.2%.

If you included Shipping in your selling price (Free Shipping) you would be charged the same fee. But if you charged Shipping separately, you would pay 10% of that fee too.

Then there is Paypal/Managed Payments.

Both charge 30c as a non-refundable fee, plus 2.9% of the WHOLE payment for domestic customers and 3.7% of the whole payment for US customers.
In addition, most US customers are now paying Internet Sales Tax to their state, and this is a pass-through which the eBay seller does not touch, but which does inflate the amount of the whole payment.

So.

If your customer bought an item for $100, you would pay FVF of $10.20.

If you charged $10 for shipping, you would pay FVF of $1.02.

You would then pay PP  30c for payment processing.

Plus 3.7% of his entire payment.

If your customer is in a US state that charges 5% sales tax, PP would include that $5 in the payment for a total of 3.7% of $115 or $4.25.

Between eBay and PP you would have $15.47 in fees on your  imaginary $100 sale.

Which is why your numbers sound low to me.

Shipping is paid by the buyer not the seller.

Either you call it Free Shipping and include the cost in your asking price OR you make a separate price for shipping.

In either case, you are not paying it.

yes, that sounds about right.  13% is a common %age that comes up re: my sales.
