Do you have to use Shippo or can you ship directly from Paypal?

Hi there! Does anyone know if it is mandatory to use the new Shippo shipping system or can we just ship directly from Paypal

You can use either Shippo or PayPal, or any other solution.

Note that if you use PayPal, all the details of your eBay transaction will no longer be available, though the basic info still will. For example, you'll get the buyer address and amount paid, but not the shipping service selected, parcel dimensions and weight, etc. That info is only available on Shippo.

Apart from the promotion that's running on PayPal through July 31st on expedited parcel domestic - which is a great deal by the way -  when you print on PayPal's new platform you are getting the same Solutions for Small Business discount you would receive at the retail counter. When you print on eBay, for most services you are getting your SFSB discount PLUS an eBay discount that applies on TOP of the SFSB program.

If you've set up your Shippo account correctly - i.e. created a Shippo account, connected your eBay account, connected your SFSB account, and connected your PayPal account, then you should see the same or lower rates for everything except Expedited Parcel domestic. And as of August 1st, our rates on Expedited Parcel domestic will also be cheaper.

But ultimately, so long as you print your label and ship your parcel, you are free to use Shippo, PayPal, the retail counter, or any other shipping platform.

Not mandatory.

For the time being (until PayPal is phased out as eBay's payment processor) you can buy Canada Post shipping through PayPal.

...

eBay through Shippo has better discounts for Expedited Parcel (Canada and USA), Small Packet USA and Tracked Packet USA than PayPal.

...

PayPal only offers some of the Canada Post shipping choices.

...

Payment through PayPal is immediate, Shippo can take up to a week to charge your paypal account. Purchasing through the Canada Post website (SnapShip or EST Online) requires a credit card.

...

No you can ship anyway you want.

To use Shippo you will need a Canada Post 'SmallBusiness Solutions' card.

Canada Post gives these to anyone who asks online or at the PO counter.

This also allows you to access the discounts available to SBS cardholders, which are about 5% on many services, with very occasional promotions.

The Canada Post discount program is called SnapShip.

Shippo meets or exceeds SBS discounts.

A quick look at shipping to the USA as of January 15, 2018. Some prices may have changed.

XpressPost USA

Same rates for eBay/Shippo, PayPal, and through Canada Post website.  With a higher rate at the post office/postal outlet.

500g online is $30.69 + fuel surcharge

500g over-the-counter is $32.69 + fuel surcharge

Expedited Parcel USA

eBay/Shippo has the best discounted rate. PayPal is the same as Canada Post.

500g example (Ontario to Washington state with fuel surcharge included)

eBay/Shippo: $18.78,  PayPal or Canada Post online: $20.55, Over-the-counter: $22.27

Tracked Packet USA

eBay/Shippo has the best discounted rate. PayPal is the same as Canada Post.

Examples (Ontario to Washington state with fuel surcharge included):

100g -   PayPal or CPC online: $13.22, Over-the-counter: $14.04

250g - PayPal or CPC online: $16.86, Over-the-counter: $17.90

500g -   PayPal or CPC online: $18.17, Over-the-counter: $19.38

1.0kg - PayPal or CPC online: $20.69, Over-the-counter: $22.03

Small Packet USA

This is the tricky one. eBay/Shippo still has the extra discount. The one that was expected to disappear and that is already gone from PayPal. PayPal is now the same as Canada Post online.

Rates (Small Packet does not have a fuel surcharge):

100g - PayPal or SfSB level 1: $6.84, Over-the-counter: $7.18

250g - PayPal or SfSB level 1: $8.49, Over-the-counter: $8.78

500g - PayPal or SfSB level 1: $11.15, Over-the-counter: $11.52

1.0kg - PayPal or SfSB level 1: $16.59, Over-the-counter: $17.16

You can also use postage stamps or Canada Post shipping labels.

Postage stamps can be purchased at some reallynice stamp (*wink wink*) discounts here on eBayCanada.

I'm not sure about shipping "directly from paypal", but I just asked about whether shipping with Shippo is mandatory, and they said no. You just have to add the tracking number to the sold item page after you've sent the package yourself, through the standard shipping system.

(tracking number - add) found under the profile of your item that's waiting to be shipped.

Hope that was helpful 🙂

Shippo will become the default with eBay in a month or so.

They are still having hiccups.

Paypal will cease to be the default when Shippo comes in.

ypcdennis forgot to mention you can also use postage stamps to ship and that those are available at a discount from some eBay sellers, even cheaper than the discounts you get from any of those companies.

Off to the PO to buy an ExpressPost envelope with discount stamps now.
