I'm selling items and going through the list of sale questions, I'm on the eBay.ca website but I don't see an option anywhere for eBay to automatically add the Ontario Sales Tax to a buyer in Ontario or whichever buyer from Canada. Where is this done? I know it happens when I Buy things. Is this a matter of listing the item in USD VS CAD?
If you do not have a registered presence in other provinces your statement in listing would be clearer to reference GST/HST only.
It will appear when you enter your HST registration number. Remember that you are also required to have that number on the invoices you send your customers.
If you are NOT registered to remit sales tax, do NOT attempt to collect it. Revenue Canada and the Mounties do not look kindly on that.
Even registered sellers do not always collect the tax, preferring to make a more equal playing field for thier fellow Canadians (and Ontarians, etc) by absorbing tax on the occasional sale within their province. This also helps us to comete with unregistered, hobby and occasional sellers.
