Why is the listed US to CAD price lower than what it is at checkout?

I purchased a buy now item with a listed US price with conversion to CAD yet when I got to checkout the conversion rate was $25 more. Why is that?

Most people think the "advertised" rate is a solid number.

But not only does it vary from day to day, but also from seller to seller.

Comparing exchange rates at your bank, the credit union, a local currency exchange shop, and xe.com can be eyeopening.

BTW xe-com is a "mid-market" rate only for banks to use in multi-million transactions, but it is still a useful tool if you understand that.

The converted price on the listing page is stated as an approximation.  It's based on currency exchange market rates which most of us don't have access to.  The amount you pay in loonies will vary depending on the payment method you choose.

Must have been a pretty pricey item for that much of a difference in the conversion calculation.
