You don't need a tracking number.

Tracking is a Seller Protection against false Item Not Received claims.

International tracking is very expensive.

The seller trusts that you are honest enough not to claim INR when your purchase is delivered, since he would be unable to prove otherwise.

Tracking is NOT required by eBay.

Mark the last estimated date for arrival on your calendar and don't worry about the shipment until then.

seriously ? i buy and sell on ebay and i always provide the tracking number for my buyers , tracking number also provides some assurance that the seller isnt scamming the buyer (from not so distant past experiences) , remind me not to buy from you if thats your opinion

@timoffit_0, I haven't sold on eBay for a while, but I've bought quite a few things and I agree with @femmefan1946: we buyers have been oversold on the value of tracking.  It doesn't guarantee an item's arrival, it doesn't make the item arrive any faster, and it doesn't protect the item from damage in transit or ensure you receive the item you ordered. 

The proof of whether a seller is scamming you or not is if and when you receive the item.  Keeping an eye on the delivery date estimate is more useful than knowing whether your item was routed via Missisauga or Manitou Lake.  I don't know the details of the "experiences" you hint at, but I suspect the end result would have been the same whether or not the item had tracking.

As you both suggest, tracking is of much more value to a seller than a buyer.
