Canada Post services are either tracked or not trackable.

No number can be 'added'.

A letter sent BC to NL can cost as little as 85 cents, untracked.

To track it using Registration would be $18.35.

More usefully a LetterPost item weighing less than 100 grams can be sent to the US for $2.95. A Tracked Parcel would cost $33.25.

Tracking is  Seller Protection against unwarranted claims of non-delivery. Many Canadian sellers do no track lightweight, compact and inexpensive items because the postal system does a very good job of fast and secure delivery and most buyers are honest.

And surprise! Canada Post has the answer for most of your shipping questions. Whooda thunk?

This is a massive Zombie Thread raised from the dead after 5.5 years. I’d love to know how they float to the top. Just yesterday, I found myself mid-reply to an unanswered question from 2013. How did it not get any answer then and why was it suddenly at the top of the heap now?

Enquiring minds want to know.
The answer is ‘math’.

Postal code to postal code.

Weight and size.

Speed of delivery.

It depends on all those factors.

The answer is at least $10 and as much as you can possibly imagine.

Go to Canada Post and use Find a Rate.

You have the answer if you read the posts.

Domestic Registration is $9.00 plus the basic shipping cost for the service chosen. Domestically all parcels are Delivery Confirmed, but Registration is the only tracking available for lettermail.

Registration does not track outside of Canada, and is therefore a waste of money. The service is still sold because it is in the UPU treaty that coordinates international postal systems.

Now weigh and measure your package --USE METRIC-- and go to the website given above.

Little update for Registered Mail in Canada. Double checked. To add registered service to letter sized package(Up to 500 grams Max 38 x 27 x 2cm) add 9.00 to postage. Example attached.

It doesn’t.

Canada Post services are either Delivery Confirmed or Tracked and Delivery Confirmed or they cannot be DC or tracked.

Keep in mind that for most purposes, all Paypal demands is Confirmation of Delivery.

You may want to insure shipments either with a third party insurance company like shipinsurance, or self-insure by adding a dime or less to every shipping and handling fee to cover occasional losses. Do the math carefully. In many categories, probably most since most people are honest, paying for insurance is more expensive than accepting the occasional loss.

Hmm- actually you can add Registration to most Canada Post services, but that starts around $9-10 and is not accepted by Paypal as proof of delivery. So don’t bother with that, just mentioned for completion.

Here"s the services with delivery confirmation/tracking , domestic. US/international . Can decide from there on rates..

In 2020 all Canada Post parcels for Canada have tracking.

Tracking for letters in Canada costs extra.  $9.75 plus regular postage.

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM 2013!

Should anyone still wish to know about tracking...

Tracked Packet, Expedited Parcel, Xpresspost are trackable shipping methods...the cost depends upon size, weight & destination.

Still no answer to this question? I have the same question regarding Canada Post and a tracking number cost compared to regular mail cost.

Depending on the value of the item and as to wither you want faster delivery

you could also use Xpress Post. Faster, more expensive, with some

insurance included, and tracking number. I have also received recently,

several shipments with the Canada Post special rate for e-Bay and these

have all had tracking numbers included. Approx. $11.00. Almost as fast as

Xpress Post too.
