Canada Post not getting signatures during Covid-19 outbreak.

Thankfully Canada Post is delivering but they are not asking for or accepting signatures on registered or express post packaged within Canada.

How does this effect ebay sellers in Canada from non arrival claims ?

Thanks for replies.

EBay only requires the Signature if the value of the shipment is over -- oh darn, either $650 or $750. Lower than that Signature is NOT required to win a Not Received dispute.

It's the Dispute that is in question here, really. Not whether or not Canada Post is getting signatures.

@lighthouse-numismaticsThe important word here is "delivering". The buyer will get a Notice and will have to pick up their purchase at the PO and sign at the counter after presenting appropriate ID. This is actually slightly more than a signature at the door, where being in the house and apparently being an adult is enough.

How FedEx is handling high value packages is not clear and you may want to confirm with them. Remember that much of their business is in highly important and confidential legal papers.

You can also mark your packages "DO NOT SAFE DROP".  The wording for the US is different, but I'm sure someone will be able to give you that.

As @cumos55   said:

If a signature is required... a notice will be left and the person who is to receive the parcel will pick the parcel and sign for the parcel as required at a local postal outlet.

Your  Canadian customer won't be allowed to sign at the door, even if he is at home.

Instead he gets a Notice.

The carrier is not physically in touch with him. I imagine this also means that Signature Required mail will not be on the truck.

A little hard on the minimum wage clerk in back of Shopper's Drug Mart, though.

There was a discussion entitled .... Update from Canada Post....

The following statement came from that discussion.....

"We’ve eliminated the need for customers to sign for parcels at the door to minimize personal contact. If you have a parcel or mail to pick up at a post office, we ask you to practise social distancing if there are other customers waiting to pick up items. Above all, we ask everyone to be patient and respectful. Being anxious at this time is completely understandable, but we are all in this together."

Parcels can be left at the residence....    or alternatively  a notice will be left and the person receiving the parcel can pick it up at a local postal outlet.

If a signature is required... a notice will be left  and the person who is to receive the parcel will pick the parcel and sign for the parcel as required at a local postal outlet.

Signatures can be added to  Canada Post Expedited Parcel.....   Canada Post automatically adds a signature required option if the value of the parcel is greater than $200..... This mainly occurred because of the presence of community mailboxes   and the high probability that a parcel might get misplaced or get lost...

Signatures will apply ....   There will be no such thing as not getting a signature.....

All parcels requiring a signature will be signed at a local postal outlet.....  not at the doorway of the residence where the parcel would have been delivered.

There will be no direct contact between the clerk at a postal outlet and the person picking up the parcel, and signing for the parcel or otherwise.

Hi @lighthouse-numismatics - for purchases of $750 or greater we still expect you to send with Signature Confirmation in order to be fully protected. Canada Post's temporary process is to no longer make the recipient sign, but instead apply safe drop procedures where possible, or leave an attempt of delivery notice card where not. (link here)

You are still covered if either of those situations occur.

For items less than $750, you are not required to send with signature confirmation, and a regular tracking number would provide protection. Thanks!

I will follow Tyler/ebay employee's advice and send as he noted and hope that if it isn't as he noted, ebay will refund me, after I refund the buyer, should it not get delivered with a signature and buyer claims non arrival.

Canada Post tells me on two occasions now that they are not offering signature options, which require receiver to sign.

But I'll go with Tyler's specific assurance.

Pls leave this post active. Thank you.

Their not exactly delivering, I closed down my shop last weekend, I got 3 INR claims this week alone, the most I have ever had in 1 week.
