The item sold and my funds put on hold for 20 days!!! This never happened before! It does not worth to sell anything here! The problem with delivery - Canada Post extremely slow, tracking was late. Another problem  with shipping: if a customer pays for the shipping, when why do you charge my account for the same?

Being diligent to the fees to use the system are a priority every individual needs to be aware of .

Ebay provides a very comprehensive list of the associated fees and promotional ad fees, which i feel is transparent and just.

I feel bad for you as i too have had a situation that involved myself taking an extreme loss on a sale a bit different of a circumstances but still a hook that got me bad.

I read alot of people are moving directions on platforms that offer a more ''fair value'', i have no direct insight on that but do read a lot of facebook group chats.

I think you will find your comment above acceptable with the majority of sellers feeling about the same.

I myself only finds one issues and on this system that ebay chooses to charge us sellers, Final value fees on shipping even when direct shipping charges are applied or if we have to provide extra insurance, we sellers also lose on that front, which i disagree with personally, so with this being said my brand uses other systems to sell expensive or high end items to have a more direct control over how fees are limited against us , and it's not that i don't want to use ebay its just unsustainable and no savings to clients which forces cost increases and puts most sales out of this market .

I hope you will still stay with ebay and get past these bumps as connecting on a global scale has been a great experience in my 15 years.

Cheers !

I note you advertise Regular Parcel for shipping.

Are you aware that you can use Expedited Shipping  in Canada , which is the same price but a little faster with better insurance?
Are you aware that Tracked Packet USA is available through eBay at a 50% discount from Canada Post counter prices?

If you don't want to use eBay labels, you can still get discounts at the PO by signing up for a Solutions for Small Business account.

Also.

Do you have a Managed Payments  account?
Without that, eBay cannot transfer your customers' payments to your chequing account.

This is the watch?

First eBay as a Buyer Protection (and their own) puts a Hold on new and occasional sellers.

Until you've been selling for 90 days and sold 25 items your payments will be held until tracking shows delivered, or in 30 days if there's no tracking. They can hold the payment for the full 30 days if you're selling in a high risk category.

Your selling fee will be 15% on a watch up to $1000, and 6.5% on the rest of your customer's payment.

Note that fees are based on the payment not on the selling price.

Payment includes shipping and the buyer's sales tax.

So to the $1420 (?) sale add what you charged for shipping and what the buyer paid in sales tax.

What was the total?

The fees should be 40c flat service fee.

On the first $1000, 15% or $150.

On the rest of your customer's payment, 6.5%.

You are paid the shipping fee by the customer, and you use that money to buy the shipping label.

Was shipping more than the $30.63 I see advertised on the listing?

This is not part of the $447.78 you paid in fees.

The buyer was charged sales tax by their government. This passed through the payment, but is not part of your fees.

Are you adding the sales tax as part of the fee? Don't.

Are you adding your shipping cost as part of the fee? Don't.

Did you opt for Promoted Listings? That was an option and your choice.

Did you opt for Promoted Listings at eBay's suggested percentage? That was an option and your choice.

Did you opt for Promoted Listings at the minimum 2%?

$447.78 is a lot more than the ~$183 I would have expected to be the fee on a $1420 +$30 shipping sale.

eBay gives a breakdown of the charges, so you should be able to see exactly how it wound up at that number.  Delivery service is YOUR choice. eBay has no control over how you ship your item. You could have chosen any number of alternate services.  As for why your account was charged for shipping, eBay collects the shipping amount you specify from the buyer and GIVES that money to you. You then pay for the shipping service. If you chose to do so through eBay, then they would charge you for the label. If you used an alternative service, then that service would bill you seperately.  Remember though, they've already given you the money you specified for the shipping on top of what the item itself sold for.

How fees and selling costs are charged

https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/fees-selling-costs-charged?id=5297&st=3&pos=2...

As a seller, your fees and selling costs are automatically deducted from your sales proceeds, and the rest of your funds are paid directly into your chequing account.

Because fees and selling costs are deducted from the proceeds of your sales, your payout amount may be different than the amount your buyer paid. Payouts are sent to your chequing account daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on your selected preference.

If you don’t have enough funds to cover your fees or selling costs, we’ll charge either your on-file payment method, such as a credit or debit card, or linked payout bank account.

Types of fees and selling costs

Fees and selling costs may include, but are not limited to:

  • eBay fees, including insertion fees, optional listing upgrade fees, final value fees, international fees, ad fees, and other fees
  • Shipping labels
  • Store subscriptions
  • eBay Money Back Guarantee refunds
  • Payment dispute refunds

Follow the links below for specific fee amounts:

How and when fees are charged

Fees and other selling costs are automatically deducted from your Available and Processing funds. These are charged at different times depending on the fee type.

If you’re accepting payment by check, money order, or cash on pickup, your fees are charged to your available funds or on-file payment method when checkout is completed.

When you owe eBay money

If your Available and Processing funds are insufficient to cover a cost or a fee, and you still owe eBay money, we’ll combine these costs into a single charge and attempt to charge this to your on-file payment method. We’ll also send you a link to make a one-time payment with a credit or debit card by email and in Messages. If your costs are greater than your Available and Processing funds, your funds will appear as a negative amount.

If you don’t have an additional on-file payment method, the payment doesn’t go through, or you don’t make a one-time payment, we’ll then attempt to charge your linked payout bank account.
