Is there any way around it? Ebay isn't useful to me if not.

Nope, not unless you sell the item for less.

It must be a very high end laptop to re-sell for $2000 or more.

What is the make and model?

OP didn't say it was a laptop. It might be a diamond ring or a designer purse or an oil painting or a coin or stamp. Laptops are just the most common high value item that newbies list and lose to scammers.

This thread is from end of May and risen from the grave; the OP hasn't been logged into ebay for well over a month. I doubt we'll ever know what he was intending to sell or how it worked out for him in the end.
