Seller disappeared soon after purchase

So today I made a purchase that seemed too good to be true. I have never used eBay before but had read about eBays money back guarantee and thought it was worth a shot.. soon after purchasing I returned to eBay and found the seller did not exist any more... How are sellers able to take payments and disappear? I only made the purchase an hour or so ago - Can the purchase be refunded or is this going to play out over the course of several months??

eBay members' accounts don't vanish into thin air.  Are you still able to look up the listing?  Is the seller's ID still there?  If so, is there a message stating that the seller is no longer a registered user?

We need a bit more information on how you "found" that the seller didn't exist before we can provide informed advice, but while you're waiting, read up on eBay's Money Back Guarantee here:

https://www.ebay.ca/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?...

The seller has been booted off eBay. We know that because it takes months for eBay to close an account on the member's request*.

Has eBay been in touch in any way?

Go to your My eBay->Purchase History and find the item .

On the right there is a dropdown menu.

On the menu is -> more items-> I didn't recieve it.

Follow instructions, making it clear that the seller is Not A Registered User (NARU).

If necessary, you can get a refund throughPaypal or your credit card, but eBay is usually fastest.

Your payment is still being Held by eBay and Paypal , by the way.
