What if seller delays shipping?

I bought an item on Jan 1st.  Seller didn't ship it out until Jan 14th.  I cannot find an Ebay policy on this but there must be an expectation that the seller needs to ship within some reasonable timeframe, like 48 hrs.  And if he doesn't, what recourse do I have?

As mentioned, sellers are supposed to ship within their handling time but ebay doesn't always show that information on the listing and if it is there, buyers do not always notice it. If the item arrives past the estimated arrival date on the listing, I believe that ebay does consider it as a not as described item so you can return it with the seller paying return shipping. Other than that, you can leave feedback reflecting that it took the sellers 2 weeks to ship. I would probably contact the seller first and ask why it took so long..perhaps they did have a note on the listing that they were away until a specific date but you didn't see it.  If I were in your situation, their response to the question might depend on what sort of feedback I left.

sellers have the ability and the right to set their "handling time" for whatever time frame works best for them, whether that be same day or 3 weeks....

The listing itself specifies that handling time under "Shipping and handling" info.

I was away for the period of Dec 18 to Jan 4/20, my store was open with a vacation message and handling period of 15 days.  I emailed all of my buyers to remind them I was away, most noticed but there were 1 or 2 that didn't.  As soon as I got back, I took off the vacation notice so if you now looked at the listing they purchased, they wouldn't see it.  Maybe they were on vacation and you didn't notice.

All sellers can set their own handling time from a pull down list from 2 days to 20 business days, l believe. I was using 2 days but now l moved this to 10 business days, as l am sick an tired of buyers putting in a resolution claim on the very same day as the item was supposed to be delivered. Then, l have to refund them a week later, presumably whether or not they actually received the item.  This is ebays great give away,,,,,,,,,,at our expense......

@pjcdn2005   makes a good point about handling time.

EBay allows sellers to put their Stores 'on vacation' however, for some reason also allows the listings to remain visible and purchasable.

I cannot understand why any seller would want this, since it only leaves frustrated buyers looking for delivery before the seller has had a chance to return from vacation (or hospital or a funeral) and ship.

Mark the last estimated date for delivery on your calendar. You have 30 days from that date to open a Not Received dispute.  And if the item arrives but is too late, you can open a Not As Described dispute, with the problem being the late arrival.
