Books don't pre-populate on ebay.ca

I've been listing numerous books, but have noticed that some don't pre-populate on ebay.ca when entering the ISBN. When the listings do show, they don't have the ratings like the ones listed on ebay.com and so they don't look like it is the same book.  I don't want to have to list on ebay.ca for everything else and ebay.com  just for the books. Shouldn't the ISBN show up for ebay.ca and ebay.com?

This catalog may not have information for all books.....  an ISBN is unique for a book and should not be different on eBay Canada or eBay.com unless the book was published in the same format by different publishers of books.

@bluedawnboutique, you might want to note the publishers of the books you're having issues with.  A lot of publishers have gone under or have been absorbed into the operations of larger publishers over the past couple of decades.  Stoddart and its parent General Publishing were pretty big players in the Canadian publishing industry until it went under in 2002.  Clarke, Irwin was purchased by Thomas Nelson that same year.

Also, some books have different publishers in different territories.  Harry Potter books, for example, are handled by different publishers in Canada, the US and the UK, and eBay's catalogue may not reflect this.

A link to eBay's catalog... information for listing books.....

Book sellers on eBay.com use media mail  available from USPS.  Their cost to ship a book is less than $10, and even lower....  A Canadian seller of books will find it difficult to sell books.

A common book priced at $3.00 and $18 shipping will not sell on eBay com....   and most likely eBay Canada as well... US sellers  have an advantage when it comes to shipping cost.

A Canadian seller must be highly selective with respect to what books they try to sell whether on eBay.com or even eBay Canada.

It's been my experience that only US ISBNs populate most of the time.

Early (1970s) ISBNs are often rejected.

Non-US ISBNs are not always recognized.

On the other hand, do readers actually search by ISBN? Or do they look for authors and for titles? And perhaps illustrator? (Rackham, Freas, )

I've also found that some publishers use the same ISBN for several editions of a title (Ace is really bad for this) .

I would suggest listing on dotCOM for books you can ship by LetterPost and on dotCA for any that have to go parcel.

Unless you can us a forwarder like stallion or chitchat.

The catalogue also tends to prefill the picture- when my title may have a different or scruffy cover- and give a very long description when I prefer my own.  YMMV.
