If you mean the item you have for sale...

You can go to "My eBay All Selling" and checkmark the items you would like to end. Then click on the button right below the item that says "End." There is no time limit for ending items. You haven't sold anything recently, so I take it you mean you want to end an item you have on.

You can cancel a listing anytime, but if there are bids on the item you have to cancel the bids first, in which case you may have to pay the fee's on the cancelled item. If there are no bids, just click on the link to cancel the item and then choose your reason. I don't think you will get your listing fee's back if there were any.

You just answered a 2 year old question, I suspect the original poster need to know has vanished.

And it goes to your Unsold Items list, where it lurks for 90 days in case you change your mind.

You can add a Note to it (Action-> add note) to remind yourself why it is there or you can Delete it if you are sure you'll never use it again.
