Two Months says he did not receive his small 7 card

How is it fair for an eBay seller when a seller says after I mailed out his envelope with a smaller card auction win. He claims it never arrive.

Lots of things to note here, but the bottom line is that it's your job as a seller to get the item to the buyer. If the buyer says it didn't arrive and you have no proof to the contrary, you have to refund, period. The good news is that these cases are pretty rare. How do you know the buyer actually received it? Lettermail (and tracked packages) do go missing from time to time, although it doesn't happen very often. It's also possible the buyer moved and never updated their address. It's usually a good idea to verify the address with them after they raise an issue.

Some things to reduce the liklihood of issues (aside from sending tracked):

  • Check the buyer's address to make sure it's valid. You can use Canada Post's Address Complete to check (canadapost.ca/ac). Make sure the address exists and is formatted correctly.
  • If possible, type the address out rather than writing it by hand.
  • NEVER send goods via lettermail / letterpost to the USA or overseas. There's a VERY strong possibility they will never make it through customs. The USA is very strict about that now.
  • Don't use generic expedited for your shipping option on listings you plan to send via lettermail. Use economy. This will give your items more time to arrive, especially if mail is moving a little slow due to labour issues or weather.
