Hi All,
So today's topic i'm researching.
I currently sell video games but only within canada. I send economy lettermail - 3.60 total no tracking. What is the equivalent service if i wanted to start sending to the US? No tracking needed, just cheapest method.
I notice that you use tracked packet to the US for most of your items. You might want to consider using small packet for your items under a certain dollar value. Even though the cost of postage and cost of item aren't technically connected, buyers do tend to shy away from a $5 or $10 item with $23 shipping. We don't have as much of a choice on how to send things within Canada but we do for the US and since we are competing with US sellers who can ship fir less, it might be with taking a bit of a risk if you are comfortable doing so.
You can add a small amount to your shipping price as 'cookie jar insurance' so that if one item does get lost, you can make up the loss with the 'insurance' on other items that didn't get list.
You are not supposed to use international lettermail to send merchandise outside of the country. However, I do know sellers that use it if the parameters fit and say that they haven't had a problem as long as they just drop their package off in an outside mail box vs giving it directly to a postal worker. I'm not saying that you should do that, just letting you know that some people are willing to do that. We all have different comfort levels when it comes to going by the 'rules'.
I use Small packet for U.S Shipping and I've had no issues so far. Im fairly new to Ebay selling, only sold around 20 items so far but 5 or so have been to the U.S with small packet.
2nd reason for Small Packet Air to the USA would be customs requirements. Also it does include tracking part of time if you input the UR#########CA in eBay. Not 100 % guaranteed but can help some of the times with delivery. Either it may or may not get scanned when it reaches a US clearing point.
