I have shipped a lot of expensive items including jewelry to the US. I always use Canada Post Expedited. You can insure it for as much as it is worth. The customers in the US do not usually have to pay duty as they are exempt for up to at least $800.00.

Personally, I would let the customer know that "for her protection" you will use Signature Confirmation and that she need not worry about the purchase being left unguarded on her porch.

It will cost you $1.50 or so.

Definitely use Canada Post Tracked Packet USA and get that 50% temporary discount.

Put the savings in your Cookie Jar Insurance fund.

When the shipment arrives, the letter carrier will have her or another adult sign for it, or leave a notice that it can be picked up at the local PO the next day.

What do you think you are insuring against?

Insuring will not make the shipment move faster or have it treated more gently.

Signature confirmation means it won't be snatched by a porch pirate.

And your packaging is your best insurance against damage

Americans can import $800 in goods without duty and any sales taxes were paid at the time of purchase , so you won't be caught up in that scam.
