What's the best method of taking crystal clear detailed pictures?

I'm new to E-bay selling and I'd like to get better. I see many pictures are crystal clear and highly detailed, is there some trick or tip to taking clear pictures? No doubt better pictures get better results.

A Really good camera OR Scan and crop the photo ....

Scanning it will give you very good results I tested it out compared to my camera just a few days ago and although my cam is only 12megapixels it was not even close to as good of a pic as my scanner put up but seeing as how I have about 1800 more picutre to go I will not be using the scanner instead just the camera
