How long does it take for a seller to receive cleared payments when a buyer pays for an item using a Credit Card

I paid for an item I bought through auction on Boxing day December 26, 2012, using my Credit Card. As ar December 31, 2012 the seller says he has not received payment. Why is it taking so long? How long should it take? Please let me know. Thanks.
