New generation Stores pages show items in the local currency to the buyer who views them. So if you're Canadian and look at your own store on eBay.com, you will see CAD prices. However if a US buyer looks at the same store page they will see USD.

No issues at play here, this is working as it is supposed to.

What buyer address is used? Registration address or Primary Shipping address? It should be on Primary Shipping address if the buyer has multiple addresses.

Aha, that makes sense!!  If only eBay would let us know about such things.  We were all wondering, and I was reluctant to even consider switching my store format if the currency wasn't displayed logically.

Was this just recently added as a feature, or was it there from the start of the new store format and one of us simply happened to finally notice it?

The new Stores have worked this way since their launch.

Unfortunately I have no insight on this, other than we have moved away from Omniture because it wasn't meeting expectations, and that there is a replacement product coming. It's possible that a contractual term forced us to part ways before the new product was ready, but this is me speculating; I don't know for sure.

Is there any way you could find out?

Omniture may have been a dinosaur, but it was better than having nothing for months.  If it wasn't a contractual necessity to terminate it, it seems like a very unnecessary move to make simply because it wasn't meeting expectations.

As I said, I don't have any insight on these details, now would knowing them change much in the current situation.

I don't know exactly what data is used, but if I had to guess I would also say it's the primary shipping address. Registration address isn't normally used for this type of thing.

How about a site update page somewhere for sellers, announcing features like this when they're introduced, so we don't go off the rails wondering about things that seem to pop up out of nowhere?  That would be so helpful!

Many sites have a Site Changes page that is updated Daily or when changes happen if not that frequent.

Many sites have a Site Issue page for bugs and issues with date found, status and date fixed.

It would be nice to have such pages on ebay but documenting issues like this in the public would acknowledge issues and open up ebay to potential lawsuits (my guess) especially in litigation happy USA.

"The new Stores have worked this way since their launch."

Was that information (re the currency view) included in the information about the new store format?  I don't remember seeing it, in fact I don't even know where to go to look for details on features associated with the new store format.

If it wasn't/isn't listed among the features, the ability to display "smart" currency would have been very important information for a lot of sellers to have in making a decision about the new store format.

Now that eBay and PayPal have gone their separate ways, and understanding that there is a long term agreement between PayPal and eBay to continue to work together, is there a plan at eBay to bring back Billpoint, the eBay payment service of choice before eBay acquired PayPal?

I don't think this was included in the list of features in the marketing message around the new Stores.

eBay has been displaying currency that is relevant to the buyer who is looking at it for years, typically it is done at the site level (you see USD on eBay.com, CAD on eBay.ca, GBP on eBay.co.uk, etc.). The fact that the store front page got smarter and now displays the right currency for a buyer regardless of the site they are on is really more of an alignment in philosophy than a new feature.

Another couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Hardly any buyers ever visit a seller's store home page, the overwhelming majority of buyers buy virtually all their items from keyword search. If you fear this would make you win or lose sales, don't.
  • Only the store home page behaves this way. As soon as a buyer clicks on an item they see the Item page the same way they would had they gotten to it from anywhere else on the site.

I am unaware of any plans to bring Billpoint back onto eBay at this time.

Your comments seem to imply that a store is only good for the lower FVF rates and features like store vacation to hide listings and markdown manager.

Organizing items by store category would seem pointless and a waste of time.

From personal experience, if I find an item by search, I will then go to the sellers store from that item and then browse their store catagories. I guess I must be a dinosaur.

Is Ebay ever going to deal with return shipping on international sales for INAD?

Buyers are returning items at whatever cost they want and expect sellers to pay. Ebay does nothing.

If the seller refuses to reimburse buyer, what does Ebay do? Neither is protected.

I have been stuck with garbage from the US and no way I will pay for return with tracking without answers to above questions.

And please, I don't know or I will look into is a no answer as these issues have been around forever.

And, why is China exempt from any of this?

If you are a buyer and need to return an item that wasn't as described, and you are unable to reach satisfactory terms withe the seller, you should simply escalate to eBay CS. If the case if sound in your favour, eBay give the seller time to accommodate for the return shipping (usually they recommend for the seller to issue a partial refund to cover for return shipping, so the buyer doesn't have to pay out of pocket) and once the item is returned to the seller, a full refund for original item price + shipping is issued. If the seller fails to comply with eBay's instructions, eBay will step in and issue a full refund, and deal with the seller directly.

Essentially, if the seller fails to make it right when you have an item not as described, just let the case get to a point where you can escalate and then ask eBay to step in. They will guide you through the rest.

Is this written in policy and if so, where?

Not sure I understand your question. If you're talking about not paying for international (UK) exposure, then all it means is that your items won't show in the default search results set on eBay.co.uk.

I am talking about the added FVF % that Ebay wants to charge sellers for added exposure if their item sells!

I do that too. But, we have numbers that show that we are far from being the majority.

He agreed to cancel so the sale was cancelled.

He paid for the item about 3 weeks later. How was this possible. My Ebay shows different information the the Escalation department screen does.

Their file number is 1-52112186301

What do I do now. I don't want to deal with this buyer, he is on my blocked list, and I don't want to mail and open myself for INR claim again or allow him to leave feedback.

Basic question, why does Ebay allow a buyer to pay for a cancelled sale and again, open sellers up to buyer abuse?

It shouldn't be possible to pay for a transaction that was already cancelled. May I have he item number? The number you gave is a CS case ID number which I am unable to look up.

My summary sentence above is exactly what the policy says, paraphrased ever so slightly.

I see no payment issued for this item in your My eBay, and it shows as cancelled. Did the buyer pay you directly on PayPal?

I do too!  I find store categories the easiest way to navigate the listings of a seller once I'm on a listing.  So I guess we are all dinosaurs.  Smiley LOL

This does, as 'poco' suggests, beg the question of why have store categories at all, if the majority aren't even seeing them?   I should add that, when I did have Omniture available, it was tracking visits to my store home page, and although these were lower than visits to listings, they weren't a lot lower.  I guess most of my buyers are dinosaurs too.

Raphael, is there any informational page currently available on eBay that sets out the features and functionality of the new store format?  If there is, I haven't been able to find it.  Could you please post the link here?  TYVM! Smiley Wink

Raphael - it is a relatively new program offered by eBay:

http://www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abn/y15/m07/i21/s01

"Sellers pay eBay a percentage of the selling price for ads that result in a sale (that's in addition to regular eBay selling fees, including Final Value Fees). Sellers specify the percentage they're willing to pay for a sale."
