Bid Retraction

Whatever happened to once you bid you are committed to that purchase unless the seller lets you off the hook?

I came in today and found a bid placed on one of my items was gone and an email indicating it had been retracted. Can anyone explain this to me as I can't seem to find any form of an explanation? Thanks for your help.

Okay, I didn't change the description, the buyer didn't enter the wrong amount, they did not contact us, nor did they bid again. So how did their bid get retracted?

Bid Retraction

From a buyer's perspective (as per policy link above):

"You can retract a bid for the following reasons:

You accidentally entered the wrong bid amount due to a typographical error.

The buyer does not have to prove anything.  He made a mistake, retracts his bid (if more than 12 hours to go) and that's that.

Things will get much worse later this year as eBay changes its policy. For example:

A buyer will purchase an item using Buy-it-Now (that is a contract, is it not?) in the morning with the intention to pay that evening from home.

He gets home, goes to pay only to discover the item was sold that afternoon to someone else. The rules are changing and eBay no longer considers that a "contract" because it does not suit their new purpose to promote their shopping cart on eBay.com.

Oh boy... this is a train wreck waiting to happen. What about a cart on eBay.ca? Is that in the works too?

And with the increase in fees for auction listings... it's like they're chasing their own tails in .ca... do they not want Canadians selling and being successful too? It's money in their pockets if we are successful too?

On the Buyer's FB page > Buyer Feedback Tab it should show the number of Bid Retractions that they have made in the last 12 months. If it seems like a pattern and excessive than ebay used to care. If it really bothers you than there is a link on your Feedback page where you can report the Buyer.
