Canadian Benifits Package

Hello,

I've been a Canadian powerseller for just over a month now. When I first signed up for the PowerSeller program I was told that I would recieve a package with a certificate etc for joining the program. Its been over a month now and I still havn't recieved anything. Is this normal? Thanks.

Actually, there was a discussion in Town Square this morning with Gary Briggs the "Country Manager" for eBay.ca and I brought up this very point. Here is his response:

"Hi imagi.nation -

We do still send out the PowerSeller welcome kits. We sometimes get them returned for improper addresses and, just to be sure, we send them out in batches -- every month or so.

If you haven't received it, two suggestions. First, make sure your preferences are set to allow you to receive "direct mail". Second, if you've done that, send an email to your PowerSeller rep and we'll check and then send you a kit. And thanks for being a PowerSeller!"

I pointed out to him that being a Bronze, I do not have a Powerseller Rep as they, I believe, are only available to Gold PS and up. His response:

"To your question about your PowerSeller kit, you can send an email through the PowerSeller hub, and your email goes to the top of the queue. Just indicate in the subject line that it regards your kit."

I was a little disappointed with the chat with Gary as his knowledge of the system didn't seem very up to date. For one thing, I haven't seen the setting for the "direct mail" option for quite a while. I looked for it this morning and still can't find it. Anybody here know if that setting still exists? The second thing was about the whole "Powerseller Rep" thing. Did he believe that all Powersellers have reps? Generally I didn't get the impression that he was up to date on the concerns of Powersellers.

Anyways, I guess the answer to your question is that if you haven't received your kit in over a month you should use the PS e-mail contact to request your kit. Apparently all of our addresses are invalid and our kits are being returned to eBay as undeliverable. 😐

Cheers,

This contradicts what was said by a Pink to one of the Cdn Power Sellers earlier this month.

When inquiring about all the extras that the US Power Sellers get, he was told .ca Power Sellers dont get anything as eBay doesnt mail anything to Canada.

Hi, Malcolm:

That's true, I remember that thread, actually; but this Gary Briggs was on the .ca site in the Canadian Town Square board. The Pink you are referring to was a U.S. Pink on the U.S. Powersellers board. U.S. Pinks are almost completely oblivious to any of the goings on of the .ca site, or for any other non-U.S. site for that matter. That includes Bill Cobb who is the President of eBay "North America". I would have been more impressed if Bill Cobb had held the discussion on the Canadian Town Square. I suspect the Mexican eBay site didn't get a response from Bill Cobb, either.

But my understanding is all Pinks, including those on the .com board are located in Burnaby BC, their North American call centre.

Also when the Pinks frequented this board, they could also be seen posting on the US bard (a couple of years back). Same thing for the PayPal reps.

I have heard that some are in Burnaby and some are in Utah. In fact I received a phone call from an eBay rep a few months ago related to a board issue and the area code on the call display showed that it originated in Utah.

At any rate, I've decided to try to see if I could get my Powerseller kit two years late so I mailed PS support and 10 minutes ago I received a response that my request would be forwarded to the department that takes care of mailing the kits, who will contact me. So we'll see. I'll let you know what the outcome is. Either way we'll get to the bottom of this once and for all.

BTW, one of the other things Gary Briggs said was that he has authorized more people in his department to be Pinks and is encouraging them to frequent the boards and we should be seeing more of them "in the next few months". Like a lot of you, I'm sufficiently jaded to not hold my breath but I always give people the benefit of the doubt until the benefit is all spent.

Ernie.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm ... not sure that's a good thing! We've been doing fine here helping each other and networking. I hope a "pink" won't have the effect of smothering our interplay!

Try This link: http://cgi4.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?OptinLoginShow

If the link does not work it is under eBay Preferences > Notification preferences in the My eBay Tab.

In defence of Garry Briggs, I have met Garry Briggs twice once at On The Road and then again at Voices. He is very genuine and seems to be concerned with the direction that eBay is taking. It is my opinion that he does listen and at least address any problems that you bring up. He seems very nice to me.

I think I got my kit within a month of becoming a powerseller -- the certificate is a cheap card -- about 1/2 page size, with a blue border saying "Vesivus is a powerseller". Oooo.

I also got some "business cards" -- 10 of them. They said the same thing "Vesivus is a powerseller on (big letters here) EBAY!"

And finally, it had a powerseller "newsletter", about 4 pages. I read it quickly -- virtually useless information to me. And I haven't seen another one since.

Yeah -- I wasn't too impressed with the kit. I don't think you should worry too much about not getting one. 🙂
