So I have been buying this particular product regularily for a year and never had a problem importing it but today I got a letter saying it is being held and I can either have "a revision of identification" or apply for a special permit (which I do not meet the criteria for)
Customs has opened and inspected this product before and always sent it through until now so what do I do?
The item wasn't purchased through Ebay only paypal I guess I can file a claim through paypal? but I would much rather have my product. than a refund. I hope someone here knows what to do.
the paper says the convention is an international agreement which regulates trade in various species of animals and plants as well as their parts and derivatives and protects the species against over exploitation through international trade.

"The item wasn't purchased through Ebay only paypal"
OK - What exactly is the product? Where does it come from and what is the country or origin or manufacture?

it's a mens health product and customs is claiming some of the ingredients come from endangered species. it's coming from China and manufactured in China. I Never had an issue importing it before although Ebay pulled all listings for the product awhile back and I haven't seen it on here since so I had to buy away from Ebay.

Customs does not like rhino tusks and bear testicles , along with a few other things.

Never mind people it doesn't look like I can do anything about it. To have the item re-examined is a big hassle.
I need the complete name and address of the exporter.
(Yeah a seller is just going to hand over their wholesalers contact info)
A list of the ingredients and what species they actually came from as opposed to what Customs is guessing they came from.
Have you noticed the language barrier? These people from China use electronic translators even the simplest question never gets a clear concise answer.

You have not specifcally indicated what the product is and why it is prohibited from importation into Canada.
I remember back in the 1970's visiting China regularly where one would find the "Big Red Ball". It contained "Ginkgo" and was deemed to be a solution for erectile dysfunction (that was decades before Viagra was invented). It was then illegal to import that product into Canada. There is a long list of similar products which cannot be imported legally.
It is quite possible many go through Canada Customs without problem... until the parcel is inspected. And you know the rest of the story.

They also don't like certain woods used to make musical instruments (Brazilian Rosewood, for example). They have a list of stuff they don't want.
Like, I think it's OK to ship guns from the USA to Canada, just make sure the package doesn't include pictures of a naked lady 🙂

No the offending ingredients were tortoise and seahorse , of which there are many different subspecies

" don't think there's an older man alive that wouldn't want the same performance and stamina they had when they were 18..."
I often ask myself that question and, quite frankly, I do not think Mary - who turns 65 in June - could take it! 🙂

Raspberry Zinfandel is the answer my good man, Most any woman can be convinced to consume 3 glasses or so , at which point they too will feel rather "young".......Tomorrow is another day and tylenol # 1 with codeine is available over the counter.

I have no idea under species ID it says testudinidae sp app 2
Hippocampus app2 Don't waste your time too much on this though it seems too much like work for me to contact the manufacturer , get a list of ingredients and where they came from what species etc. To submit to customs for a review of the ingredients in the parcel.
Mostly what puts me off doing that is the language barrier trying to communicate effectively with a Chinese supplier. Online translators really aren't that good and I think I would become extremely frustrated trying to convey and interpret technical and scientific terminology between the 2 languages.
I'm pretty sure I am in the right though, considering they manufacture and distribute so many of these products destined for the over seas market I find it difficult to believe they would knowingly include any ingredients banned by the Government.
