Do you follow-up with CanadaPost tracking ?

A customer asked about whereabouts of the order. This one has been shipped using 1-day guaranteed Expedited Parcel, it's been 5 days and last record is from accepting at the PO.

I checked our expedited shipments since November and came to 35 shipped, 18 late or failed delivery. I accounted for late drop and holiday.

Should I make a claim ? If all people start checking and claiming, CP may soon go bankrupt.

I don't do the business most of you do within Canada. Almost all my business is sent to the USA and almost all is under 500 grams and qualifies for lettermail or light packet. When I do send expedited however, I have noticed that the tracking is often not up to date. I could go back several months on US shipments and find that there's no record of delivery, so I never put too much stock into the tracking.

Besides, you've already done the work - might as well get something for it.

I hate doing claims. It takes forever over the phone for each # and the form online has million fields. I may still have one small packet from May that I wanted to claim and never got to it. Recently one customer from Indonesia claimed non-receipt, I intended to do a claim until he finally received it after 3 months. Seems post office cashed for air and send surface. I never called them about that.

On the other hand, I may just give myself Christmas present from CanadaPost and go through all my year shipments and claim everything claimable instead of whining about low sales in December 😉

I'm not sure of the details but I think there is a time limit to apply for this type of refund.

Stop Press: The time limit for service guarantee claims is 30 days from the expected delivery date.

A claim for delay must be initiated by calling Canada Post's Customer Relationship Network at 1.888.550.6333
or 1.800.267.1177, or by email by visiting canadapost.ca (see Contact Us) or by visiting and authorized post
office within thirty (30) Business Days from the expected delivery date according to the latest published Canada
Post delivery standards. The Customer may be required to provide proof of the acceptance of the Item by Canada
Post. Canada Post is the sole source of performance data for making calculations for payment. Refer to the
Canada Postal Guide at canadapost.ca/postalguide for details on Delivery Service Standards.

The Buyer paid for the shipping. Are you going to refund him?

I don't do claims for late deliveries unless a Buyer complains.

Long answer: Our Canadian buyers pay $1.95 flat rate shipping (except heavy items). Most of our EP shipments are upgraded at our own discretion. In November only Xpresspost buyer actually requested the premium service, rest were our own upgrades.

Short answer: No.

This could be easily automated. I am afraid once everyone start beating CanadaPost on the head, they fold the guarantee.

I used to like CanadaPost, but now after going through my tracking and resending entire order to guy shipped 12/09, should got it 12/10 but after 5 days the only record is "Accepted at post office" ... resend it again on 16th (instructed him to refuse the late one), he should have gotten it on 17th, on 18th still nothing.

Expedited Parcel seems to get rendered properly only by sheer accident. This can be easily monetized by continuously doing these claims decreasing cost of EP to 50% (after PayPal's 20%).

Old news....companies providing this service have been around probably since the days of sailing ships (well maybe not that long).

Google....'freight audit' or similar and you'll get lots of results.

OH yeah, the Canada Post "service guarantee" does NOT apply to all destinations, they give themselves plenty of weasel room.

You can check out most of the qualifications here:

Seems so. When doing claims on the website, it refused several 1-day late claims, 4-day late to Chilliwack, BC V2R5G7 and 2-day late to Bolton, Ontario, L7E4V3.
