Hello, I was contacted by a seller from the UK who I just purchased a $142.00 CAD item. Do I require extra insurance or am I covered by Ebay

I just wanted to know my coverage for purchases on Ebay. Do I need to pay a seller extra for insurance. Is that extra insurance paid for his benefit or mine or both our benefits? I thought that ebay or Paypal covered me, the buyer, for approx. $!000.00 U.S. Is that true? Thank you, Wayne K.  Canada

Hi Wayne.. Insurance covers the seller's butt not yours. Decline the request.

Seller is responsible for getting the item to you as purchased. Otherwise PayPal Buyer Protection is available to recover payment and there is no upper limit...

If the item fails to arrive or if it is not as described, you can file a claim with Paypal.

The seller can then correct the situation or refund you. (If he is overseas, go for the refund.) If he does neither, PP will refund you and go after him. You then leave feedback and Detailed Seller Ratings.

We sellers need Delivery Confirmation to avoid fake claims of non-delivery. We pay for insurance as part of our sub-contract with the postal system for secure delivery. Neither provides any benefit to the buyer, which is why eBay requires the seller to include such costs in the advertised shipping cost.
