Help with identifying chenille bedspread please

Hello Everyone

I would like to list this bedspread, but I am not sure if it would be considered to be chenille ??

I believe it is polyester, and I am under the impresssion that chenille should be cotton.

I tried searching both eBay and the web and I can't find one like it though I know they are not rare, but I must be searching for the wrong thing.

I hope someone can help, and I thank you in advance for your help

Shirley

Chenille isn't necessarily cotton according to Wikipedia..

"The yarn is commonly manufactured from cotton, but can also be made using acrylic, rayon and olefin"

I can't help answer your question though as I know very little about fabrics.

Help with identifying chenille bedspread please

chenille looks like a closely trimmed shag carpet  with a pattern...  The pattern is very geometric...

Here is a look at Google images

https://www.google.ca/search?q=chenille+bedspreads&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X...

and some history... how they are made...

Chenille is a way of making a bedspread....

The pattern is very geometric....  Yours is very repetitive.

Trying to say more is most likely not possible... Identifying a maker or manufacturer would be very difficult without a tag  on the backside.... or even trying to identify its age.

If it is not cotton  then it would have been manufactured recently with a non-cotton thread.

All  you can say is "chenille", its condition ... such as missing parts to the pattern... or an absence of missing threads to the pattern.

It is very difficult to see the  the pattern without side-lighting to see the variations in the pattern.. or more specifically the repetitive nature of the pattern...

One of the references describes the pattern as having been created with tufting....  The threads are placed on a flat base  ... looped through and not tied onto the surface, or a part of the weave and cannot be pulled out.  Thread creating the pattern on a chenille bedspread can be pulled out very easily...

Look very closely at your bedspread  to verify that this is truly chenille

Without my seeing this  it is not possible for me  to see if the pattern  is not a part of the weave and created as the bedspread is manufactured  ...  or if it is indeed tufting added to a plain flat base... .

Without my handling the bedspread,  it is not possible to say more....

Your example looks more like a candlewick bedspread, but it is difficult to tell from your photos.  Your pictures have been taken too close or zoomed in too much, and all the detail looks fuzzy, as if out of focus.  It looks as if you used a flash in the first photo - the lighting is not enhancing the image.  The effect of the pattern is lost.  Try stepping back a little, and taking the photo at a bit of an angle, not straight from above, so the surface variations are better shown.  A better overall shot of the bedspread would be helpful.  A photo of the back may give information about how it was made.  Google "chenille bedspreads" and "candlewick bedspreads" and look at the images - you should be aiming for the same effect as the best photos you see there.

The word 'chenille' is French for 'caterpillar'.

There are chenille bedspreads offered in the current Sears catalogue, so I guess they are making a comeback.

Most of the chenille bedspreads I have seen have a deep border fairly closely tufted with a usually floral pattern in the centre with more of the base fabric showing.

While chenille is tufted, candlewick is knotted. But wikipedia is a good resource.
