New eBay Format

Well 6:30am I got my shock when I logged onto My eBay to look at my sales history etc and saw the new format.

I honestly dont know what to say at this stage except that it threw me for a loop. Its like shopping at the same grocery store every day, you know what items are in each isle and now that grocery store has closed and I am in a new one.

The first thing that I notice is that there are a few header boxes on the left margin of the page, all at the top that take up 1/4 of the page and when they end, you continue with all this blank space running down the margin taking up 1/4 of page space.

The items up for auction list highest bid in red in US and Cdn currencies followed by BIN in both currencies and that looks confusing and is really not necessary.

While there are some customizing features, they primarily only allow you to turn on or off a couple of the features. My concern here would be that if you took the time to customize the page to suit you, is that customization saved such that if you cleaned your history and cookies the old eBay defaults wouldnt replace your customization.

Anyway, lets hear from everyone.

PS Didnt mean to start a new thread on this topic. Thats what happens at 6:30am sometimes when one wakes up and gets a shock when signing on to eBay looking for their auction information.

Question is, why did I only get the new format over a week after others?

You probably use the .ca site. The mandatory switch for me happened about two weeks ago.
Most of what you're talking about is covered in the other thread. Check it out.

I dont like the fact that the icons which are supposed to show store format/fixed price listing etc, dont show up.

I agreee with Malcolm about the left margin preferences thing, which imo wastes space. All my auctions have to be on 2 lines, because that blasted margin takes up too much space. It squishes everything to the right...I feel lopsided when looking at it, and I have been compensating by leaning to the left(vbg). That could be put into a bar across the page, and would be so much better.

I REALLY miss the running totals!

What I do like is the part that shows how many watchers an auction has.

I also like that you can now go back and look at auctions from 60 days ago. makes much more sense since they make us wait to file NPB, and sometimes those can drag out to well over 30 days in cases where a money order was supposed to have been mailed, and wasnt.

This is really painful to have to admit but ... I'm finding Andale's counters page more useful than My eBay since they rolled out version 2.0! ?:| 😮

OUCH!
The US Board is filled with Andale threads and I thought I read somewhere in a US PS post that they broke off their relationship with eBay in the last few days.

I cant comment on them Glenda as I dont use them, we do everything in-house.

I've noticed those threads too Malcolm -- it begins to look as if Andale is on the way out! Not surprising as they've been pretty buggy and undependable for a long time. I just add the free counters more out of curiosity than anything else, but their counter report page is more like the old My eBay.

We tested the counters in the beginning (not of time, when we started listing on eBay) and they were waaaaaay off.

Since we run our own server it was pretty easy to see the number of hits to our pics and other hots spots and compared to the counters and we were blown away how inaccurate the counters were.

I don't doubt the inaccuracy for a minute. How many time have you clicked on a listing where it has stated counter not available. Now is this visit being counted and just not displayed, or is it missed in its entirety?

Even when there are no error messages in the counter, I have found them to be totally inacurate, even without needing my own server to check it, they were so off! I have clicked on my own auctions once/day for several days. That alone should account for several hits...and the counter remains at 1. Then someone clicks on the BIN, and still the counter shows as 1. I was just thinking earlier that I should search and find a counter from another site and put it on my auctions instead.

Here's another US thread on the subject just started, perhaps someone will come up with the answer, like eBay at some point: http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.jsp?forum=76&thread=410156450&modified=1086071341974

Generally, counters don't count the same person viewing an auction multiple times. The counter only counts unique IP addresses viewing it. You can reload the page 100 times, and unless other people are viewing your auction too, it will still show as 1 person on the counter (you).

Hi Shooger,

I thought that each day you looked at any one auction, it counted that. So, for example, I thought it would count me 5 times if I looked at someone elses auction one/day for 5 days.

Oh, well...live and learn. 😉

No shooger is right.... It only counts unique visits.

Still no word on how one gets a negative though and people on the US PS Board are chalking them up like crazy.
