Hello,

I initially bought an item and raised a refund case as I needed another item instead to serve its purpose. Idiotically of me, once I received the item, I decided to cancel this request as I thought I could use it for another purpose in something else. Turns out however that this would be difficult as it's a niche item and requires a lot of funding to be used. I was also surprised as the seller wanted me to ship to another address which caused me to keep the items instead of going through the return trouble. Currently I am waiting for the seller's response to my request for another refund but I am worried because, since I cannot raise another refund case, trouble might happen. I talked with an eBay customer service representative who advised that I not return the item as I am no longer protected. Is this true? What should I do now?

You bought an item

Before recieving it, you had buyer's remorse.

You opened a Dispute to get your money back.

The item arrived.

You closed the Dispute.

You learned you cannot use the item.

You asked for a refund.

The seller asked you to return the item, but gave a different address.

You have not returned the item.

The seller has not sent a refund.

Right so far?

When you closed the Dispute, the transaction is deemed to be satifactorily ended.

Now you are on your own in dealing with the seller.

He has agreed to refund you and asked you to return the item.

Since neither Paypal nor eBay will work with you since the Dispute is closed, it is irrelevant that the address is different from the shipping address.

As a possible explanation, the seller may be 'dropshipping', which means he takes the orders, and his supplier ships. If the supplier will not take returns, the new address may be his own.

If you do not return the item, the seller has no reason to refund you.

Since you do not trust the seller, although I cannot see that he has done anything wrong here, I would advise you to sell the item yourself. Possible outlets are eBay, free online classifieds like Kijiji, and pawn shops.

Don't expect to break even.
