If we are apathetic and don't vote or care who wins, we deserve what we will get - another minority government.

The 8% is the tax they want to remove from hydro bills so for me savings of maybe $20 a month pretty small promise...
My company I work for there Hydro bill ranges from 1 to 1.5 Million per month So It works out to be alot for my company but for the average person it's not much ...
If it is cheaper for My Gold Mill to Operator the better chance I have of being employed
06-05-2014 02:11 PM
From All my research and wating debate etc i do not see the NDP looking at any Major Changes just minor promises all realistic and achievable .. Not to say maybe there a little out to lunch but Hudak sounds like he thinks he's god .. liberals will have me starving so I can have lights on in my house well they make some more dumb decisions and take a ton more tax dollars...
06-05-2014 04:23 PM
Vote NDP if you feel like its the right one but having an opinion like "liberals will have me starving so I can have lights on in my house" is totally out of touch. I have never known anybody who is barely surviving and complaining about too much taxes or taxes was the reason why they went broke.
The more you earn the more you get taxed. That is how the system works for regular people.
NDP is actually more left than the liberals overall. They are the most pro goverment party which equals to more taxes. Question is, who will spend those taxes correctly?. Hudak promises less taxes, killing off unions and privatization. Crying about the gas plants hoping it sticks. NDP are trying to get some liberal votes by moving a little bit to the center. Liberals are proven in Ontario. That is just a fact. If people wanted to vote that way, they would stick with the liberals.
IMO the NDP shouldnt have moved to the center to get some votes. If they lose, they lose. The party and their ideals is gaining ground either way. I think this tactic will ultimately bite their behind.
06-05-2014 05:21 PM
"My company I work for there Hydro bill ranges from 1 to 1.5 Million per month"
Once again, can the NDP candidate in your riding explain where the money they will give your employer will come from?
06-05-2014 05:24 PM
"The 8% is the tax they want to remove from hydro bills"
I hope you are not assuming your employer pays the tax. ALL HST paid by the company is fully (100%) rebated as Input Tax Credit. Corporations in Ontario get back all the HST they pay at time of purchase and that includes HST paid on electricity.

Here's my plan:
a) Hudak's not getting my vote, no way, no how.
b) Unfortunately this election has to be a strategic vote because of the party system and we're stuck with it (for now).
c) Check the polls near the election and if the Libs and the NDP are close to each other then I'll vote NDP. If the NDP haven't mustered enough steam and it's the Liberals or the Hudak, then the Liberals get my vote.
d) If between now and the election Aliens land and kidnap Hudak and the Conservatives appoint a new leader, then I have to rethink the whole thing.
A lady I know had a call from the Conservative candidate in her area today. She told me that they were having an on-phone question period and did she want to participate? She said "yes". They said she could ask a question but it had to be screened first. She asked about healthcare, got a pat answer, isn't voting for the Conservatives before or now.
Our (ahem) politicians need their feet held to the fire and see how they do. It's like the debate the other night, they know the questions and they have their answers and they have rehearsed possible disagreements etc. It's like a WWW wrestling match, it's a scam. Put them in an arena, auditorium, hall, whatever and make them answer the Hard questions with no screening and no political spew. Lets see what they're really made of.

O well my point was that NDP is the only party talking small realistic steps... Liberals want a new railway or whatever who does that help other then GTA ... So all ontario tax payers will be forking out money so people in the GTA area can travel faster ... That does not help the other 95% of Ontario ....
I realize voting NDP may be useless but as a northerner they are the only ones saying anything that really helps the province as a whole...
I mean people can cut up NDP all they want but if you do an overall comparison I mean really whats to compare... I already pay 7k or more for heat and hydro for my house that is only 1200 sg ft .... So if I had a minimum wage job about 30% of my salary would go to just heat and hydro ....
I hear hudak talking about those things but in order to maybe get that I have to vote for a guy who think he can kill 100,000 jobs and create 1 million ...
Liberals are not even touching base on those at all other then hiking hydro rates in a province with the most produces hydro with the highest cost .. Which to me is out to lunch ...
I mean I can hope NDP will cut 8% off tax or go with Liberals to see it go up 42% or go with Hudak and save money on Hydro but take all the other screw ups and job cuts that come with it ..
To me NDP sems to be the most Modest of them all .. I don't listen to the big over exagerated promises because 95% of the time those promise are BS so I look for the little things ...
Freeze on Tution rates and interest free loans for student .. ( I will have 4 kids to send to school in the future this is Big for me as I am 31 and still paying off my student loan and would enjoy my kids not having those burdens....
I just can not find 1 things appealing about Liberals ... I can with Hudak but don't trust him and why kill 100,000 good paying jobs for 1Million burger flipping jobs that are just enough to eat and have an apartment these days...
All in all I just think you have to be an idiot to vote for liberals after everything that has happened with them ... Not that Wynne was the 1 reason the gas plant thing happened but they have a horrible record ....
06-07-2014 11:44 PM
Sorry about that didn't know that pierre ...
As for where the money would come from I guess the same place it came from when we paid millions to give hydro free to quebec and the US ...
We do not need to pay what we are for Hydro so any cuts it's not like we need to find money for a 8% tax break .. I mean if were talking 25-50% cut in hydro cost that might raise some issues but 8% on the bill as a whole or the tax I don't think anyone has to find that money ...
06-07-2014 11:49 PM
I am not saying Taxes would break my bank I am saying I pay $120 a month just for delivery of hydro and my bills for a tv and 2-4 lights per month is $300-$400 Increase that by 42% $420-$570 a month .... 6-7 years ago I paid $80 -$100 a month....
How is this out of touch or about taxes ... Liberals are going to increase it 42% within 4 or 5 years ... NOT tax just the cost of hydro which means I am very in touch to know that is Fing retarded
Fix music do you know what the parties are proposing Liberals will have people choosing between light and medication or lights and food .. Not everyone makes good money but everyone does have a hydro bill
06-08-2014 04:21 AM
I don't know I just read over all the proposals again and all I see from Liberals is cost more expenses more taxes etc...
I mean I hate Hudak but other then the jobs thing his platform is fairly solid just don't trust the joker grinn on his face....
I really wish NDP would have stepped it up ... Up North and for Ontario period BIG businesses are leaving to go to the States and Qeubec just due to the Hydro rate alone... XXTRATA is one that comes to mind ...Closed there doors and moved to qubec and now 100's of Northerners are out of good paying jobs...
See the Thing is with up north EVERYTHING depends on Gold Mines and copper etc... EVERYTHING ... These places close then the retail stores start closing and restaurants start shutting down ... They have taken seats away from the north because they don't care but the north needs a voice
06-08-2014 07:00 AM
06-08-2014 07:52 AM
"EVERYTHING depends on Gold Mines and copper etc... EVERYTHING ..."
You are quite correct.
The price of gold and copper determines what happens to folks living in that area - it is generally irrelevant if the Premier represents a party or another. Cost of hydro may go up or down a bit - it will make no difference to employment - price of gold and copper do make a real difference.
06-08-2014 04:26 PM
Cost of hydro may go up or down a bit - it will make no difference to employment?
I am not sure what you Mean by this ..xstrata Moved to Quebec when the hydro went up about 2-3 years ago ( Guesstimate) ... The company closed it's doors and left solely based on the cost of Hydro leaving close to 1000 people out of work
My company I work for is always looking for ways to cut cost on hydro because it is one of there biggest bills and can very much be the determining factors on closing it's doors..
Hydro cost are the devil right now of the industries in Ontario ..
Not only does it affect northern communities it affects all of ontario specifically Toronto as most of the big players and head offices for alot of these companies are in Toronto...
when I was about 20 all the mines closed the markets crash I bought my first 3 bedroom 1300 sg ft house for $16,000 the only problem was for almost 70,000 people all we had left was minimum wage or goverment jobs turning all communities into ghost town ...
hydro cost is killing Ontario ...
06-08-2014 05:03 PM
"hydro cost is killing Ontario"
The higher cost of hydro in Ontario can be traced back to the election of Mike Harris in 1995.
"The political impetus for restructuring increased with the 1995 election of the Mike Harris government. In that year, Mike Harris commissioned the Macdonald Committee. The committee recommended the elimination of Ontario Hydro's monopoly on managing generation capacity and that the electricity market be opened up to competition. In response to the Macdonald Committee's recommendations, the Ontario government released "Direction for Change: Charting a Course for Competitive Electricity and Jobs in Ontario" in 1997, detailing the government's plans to open the market for electricity supply."

More reading on the subject :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydro_One
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Harris
"Ontario Hydro was split into five successor companies (the two largest being Ontario Power Generation and Hydro One, representing generation and distribution of power respectively) with the plan of eventually selling them off. Public opposition to the sale of these money-making government enterprises postponed the government's plans."
06-08-2014 05:30 PM
Yep so now all we need is the goverment to change this ... Maybe regulate hydro not really sure as I don't now the solution all I know is it makes no sense and Ontario needs someone to fix this ... Other then major Cities Ontario people depend on Industries there are no corperate suit wearing jobs within about 400 km of me either way .. We are Trades people for the most part and depend on industries to feed out families.
To me It is not who did but who is gonna fix it that matters ...
There is not clear cut answer as to who is gonna fix it but Liberals are making the least promises in that area... Hudak well I just can give him my vote because of the job thing which ticks me off because if not for that he would get my vote...
Hydro cost to me is one of if not the biggest issue Ontario has on it's plate right now ... It is directly related to Unemployment,Goverment Spending (Welfare,EI,Health care etc.) ... Fixing Hydro rates will fix alot more then our Hydro bill
06-08-2014 05:44 PM
Way back to the 1960's Quebec "Maitre chez Nous" (Masters in our own home) campaign was to buy and own all electricity producers in the province under Ontario Quebec. The plan was simple: if the government owns it, it belongs to the people for the benefit of the people.
Under the Conservatives a generation ago, they went the other way: they sold out much of what we own. It would be difficult if not impossible to put the genie back in the bottle.
06-09-2014 04:36 AM
Yeah boo to that LOL .... 1 thing I do not look at is Job promises without tackling hydro cost because no political party can create jobs without doing it .....
Big wigs a flocking away from Ontario due to the overwhelming cost associated with running a business in Ontario ....
SO how does any political part propose creating jobs without taclkling the issue of why the jos are gone ..
We can take on anymore tax raises ... Even NDP want to increase the big boys taxes so how do they even think they are going to create all those jobs ... I think most parties are out of touch with what has to happen.. So I will just vote for the party vowing to do the most aside from job creation because to me not 1 party actuall has a solid JOB CREATION PLAN ....
I want to vote NDP but I also don't want Hudak to get it which could force me to go with liberals but that is just not that great either...
I would love to Vote Green party to see if maybe they can Change but the last thing we need is Enviromental activist roaming all over...
It's nice to wanna go green but If it comes to quick the cost would be to high for Ontario ... Not to mention with Native Americans wanting more this is not the time to stop company creating jobs and business...
Sure I hate pollution but what I hate more is seeing families not eat or kids be picked on there whole lives because there parents could only afford to dress them in rags there whole life...
I think the Green party would probably make the worst mistakes in political history if voted in now (There time is in another 20 years or so maybe )
NDP or LIBERALS ... Someone these forums tell me who and why you would vote for to see if my train of thought is correct .... FYI no Hudak talk he is sqaushed ... LOL ..

"Big wigs a flocking away from Ontario due to the overwhelming cost associated with running a business in Ontario ...."
We seem to read a lot of comments about business running away from Ontario during an election campaign. What are the facts? I mean the real facts?
When checking employment information supplied by Stats Canada - province by province - over the last year any fair minded reader will not see businesses "flocking away" from Ontario.
For example, from the most recent monthly release:
Employment in Newfoundland and Labrador declined for the second consecutive month, down 4,100 in May, pushing the unemployment rate up 0.6 percentage points to 12.7%. Compared with 12 months earlier, employment in the province was down 8,900 or 3.8%, the result of declines since the start of 2014.
In Ontario, employment was little changed, leaving employment in the province 39,000 (+0.6%) above the level of May 2013. The unemployment rate was 7.3% in May, the same rate as 12 months earlier.
While employment in Quebec was unchanged in May, there were more people searching for work, pushing the unemployment rate up 0.4 percentage points to 8.0%. On a year-over-year basis, employment in the province was little changed.

Things may not be as good as promoted by the government but they are not as bad as claimed by the opposition (those who want to gain power).

"Someone these forums tell me who and why you would vote for to see if my train of thought is correct ..."
Unfortunately, I do not have an answer for you. Basically, about one third of the population wants a right wing administration (Hudak at Queen's Park, Harper in Ottawa) while two thirds does not. However, that majority of voters is divided among several parties (Liberal, NDP, Green).
If that majority divides its votes, the right wing party takes power.
If a large percentage of the population does not "bother" to vote, odds are the right wing party takes power since its supporters seem to have a higher conviction level and want to run things.
I do not have the perfect answer. I wish I did.
