In 1999 I with others set up pirate radio station called DRK RADIO.
It was great fun and lasted for about one year.
There was some great djs playing blues to rock pop and a bit of everything.
The djs names were in code so the powers that be did not know who we were.
There was the silver fox
The hairy man
Dj hacker
Billy the kid
Togge
Chris Carroll
And many more.
What I would like to do now is start it again on this board.
You be the dj and find the music video you want to play on YouTube and post a link on here.
You can also post a video of you talking about the song you picked if you like.
And the next posted do the same.
I will get the ball rolling

This was the very first song played at live aid.
Not a great song, but we have to start with something.
Can you do better, please join in.

"Great words. The tune seems to be in many ways taken from the old song Danny Boy"
-------
It was.
"The song is based around the tune from "Danny Boy" - which in turn was based on the tune from "Derry Air".
--------------
British singer Becky Taylor covered the song on her second album Shine (1 July 2003). The song was subsequently recorded by Daniel O'Donnell in 2003 and was a hit throughout Ireland and the UK. Tenor Javier Fontana also recorded the song.
Later in 2003, David Foster decided to produce the song after being introduced to it by Frank Petrone of peermusic, the song's publisher. He chose the up-and-coming Josh Groban to record the song, accompanied by the tenor Craig Von Vennik of the Establishment. It proved very popular in the US, making it to the top of the Billboard adult contemporary chart and remaining there for six weeks. Groban also performed it at Super Bowl XXXVIII, in a special NASA commemoration for the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. A special surprise performance by Groban, for Oprah Winfrey's 50th birthday, gave "You Raise Me Up" massive international prominence, and his recording was nominated for a 2005 Grammy award. Groban performed the song at the first Idol Gives Back Concert with the African Children's Choir.

"That's what I like about this thread....seeing and hearing new tunes and singers I have not really heard of."
-----------
I had never heard of him before either. A guy at work gave me his first cd to listen to. So I put it on and the headphones and by the time I finished listening to it, I was hooked. I thought he was wonderful.

Wow! I just impresed the heck out of myself. As soon as I saw the song title - the name Kyu Sakamoto popped into my head (I know, there is lots of room). When I played the vid, I was correct. No Alzheimers here (yet). Somedays I wonder though. Great long term memory but short term - YUK!
