You are doing the right thing if you ship a "car part" that is exactly what should go on the Customs Declaration.
It is NOT a "Gift" (you are not giving it) nor a "Sample".

Since I sell used computer parts, I put "Computer Parts Used" in the "Other" description on the CN22 form. Just in case the customs officials in other countries think that the declared value is significantly less than the New value of the item and wish to open the package and access the value of the item as New instead of Used.
Also it might sway the customs officials in international countries from spending time accessing duties and taxes if applicable on the used item. Unlikely since I know that for most countries it does not matter if new or used as to whether duties and taxes are applicable.

Main thing: keep the description generic and boring and the value low (but within reason) so as not to attract unwanted attention.

However if you use Paypal labels, the actual value flows through to the customs form (and accordingly leaves an electronic trail of the transaction). My view is that it isn't wise to "fudge" the numbers in any case. We've probably had that discussion ad nauseum on these boards, so I'll say no more.
"Other" is indeed merchandise (too bad they can't simply say that). I keep the description generic but accurate, i.e. "Ladies' dress", "Sewing pattern", etc.
Incidentally, for items that I think may be close to, or over, the allowable limit for the buyer's country (e.g. $200 for the US), I always put a copy of the Paypal or eBay packing slip in a plastic stick-on sleeve on the outside of the box. I cut up a CP labelope to fit. I'd rather have Customs tear open the packing slip envelope than tear open the box itself. If they see an official packing slip, I think they're less likely to want to dig through the box. All I can say is: so far, so good.

I was told by a postal worker a few weeks ago that you are suppose to put ebay sale item in there, if it's an ebay sale item, since it's already listed on the custom form what is in the package. I knew she was wrong, but she said she had been working for Canada post for over 10 years and she knows better than me lol. I always put what is in it, like filters, dvd case etc, and I still do.

She was wrong and you are correct.

"Other" is indeed merchandise (too bad they can't simply say that).
I don't use Canada Post customs forms but the USPS CN22 forms were changed a few years ago and now include a choice for Merchandise in addition to the previous Gift, Sample, Documents, Other.
Reality is that if you are sending packages through the mail you really don't need to tick any of those boxes, nobody at the destination end cares as long as the description and value fields are completed.

I always use the hand written form and just ignore the "other documentation" box as its called there without ticking anything. Still no problem covering light packets in stamps and dumping them in them in the mail box. I definitely wouldn't put anything about a sale on it, and always a low value

On the Paypal shipping labels if you have checked 'other' off (rather than gift, documents or commercial sample) you have to put something in that box...I fill in merchandise.
There is already a description of the item on the top part of the label (which is the title of the listing) so it doesn't make sense to me to describe the item again. I do change the description field to make it shorter. For example, instead of leaving Coach signature jacquard black white wallet...... I'll change it to fabric wallet.

If all Sellers did this the number of issues with International sales would plummet. The titles used on eBay are often wholly inadequate and/or inappropriate for a customs form description.
