calculated shipping

is there something wrong with calculated shipping Someone just bought something from me they paid 15$ shipping through ebay.

Now I'm printing out the label via paypal and the shipping is 22$ I have not added or changed anything it would of been 24 without discount.. Just not sure if I should continue to do calculated shipping it is easier but I may just find out the rate my self. considering it was off by 7$ would of been 9 without discount..

Possible causes

1. Did you use the box size dimensions in the listing or change it for a larger box when shipping?  Expedited Parcel uses Volumetric weight override for rate used.

VW = L (cm) x W (cm) x H (cm) / 6000 for shipments within Canada

VW = L (cm) x W (cm) x H (cm) / 5000 for shipments outside Canada

2. Did you have an issue with listing on eBay in inches and pounds and using PayPal in cm and kg?

Calculated shipping is a seller's tool, not a buyer's tool. Free shipping is growing rapidly. Why? One reason is that customers can see the keywords, main picture, final price, all on one screen on their phone.

Consider that in your quest for "actual shipping cost", which it is not, due to currency, materials, fees, etc., you are forcing the customer to go through a series of decision steps.

You are also not disclosing the final price until much later.

Customers do not like this. Sellers do, customers do not.

What was the item number, where is the buyer located and what were the dimensions you used in the listing and on paypal.

For the few times I do use calculated shipping I use metric but when I go to paypal, I always have to change either the weight or dimensions from imperial to metric. Did you have to change something in paypal before you did the label?

$22 sounds like Expedited pricing. I would get that sort of price when I am around 1.5 kilo.

I agree with PJ, there is a mixup in the dimensions or weight.

What do you mean? When I look at a listing that is using calculated shipping I see the price to my postal code so there is no need to wait to find out the shipping cost or to go through any decision steps regarding shipping.

I did not know that. I was under the impression, from talking to others, that you had to click through pages.

In what currency?

If you are selling in US dollars, like most Canadian sellers, the amount your buyer pays for shipping will be in US dollars.

When you print out the label from Paypal, the amount you are paying to Canada Post will be in Canadian dollars.

$22CDN = $17 USD  more or less.

On my accounting spreadsheet, the selling price column and the S&H column are in US dollars. The postage and procurement cost columns are in Canadian dollars.

sorry about not getting back to the post sooner been busy! lots of feedback to respond to.

@pocomocomputing

I actually over measured the parcel to 1.1kg when the shipping weight was .975kg also the dimensions I went over by 2 cm on each which i decreased on final shipping.

@mr.elmwood

I understand were you're coming from but in my opinion I believe on more expensive items if the buyer knows what they are paying for shipping it gives them a better understanding of the price they are paying for the item. Just from my standpoint as a buyer I would feel more secure as a buy knowing what the actual shipping is so I don't get ripped off. I do sell things with free shipping but those are cheap items and that is why. Also what do you mean i'm disclosing the price they are given the shipping price under the item price depending on were they live no madder what.

@pjcdn2005

  Yes it is expedited trying not to advertise anything but here is the item *link below* I even have it as expedited @ Calculated to Canada and the U.S both are expedited anyway because for some reason it is cheaper to ship expedited to Canada when I calculate on Canada post website , i really don't care how much it is to the states because it is cheap for them since Canadian both the price I am selling it for and they are really getting discounted shipping even tho i'm not because the dollar is in the toilet. here is the link it is .975 kg.. also read my @pocomocomputing for dimensions

Like I said I only made the dimensions smaller.

@reallynicestamps

I sell it in Canadian dollars I paid for shipping in Canadian dollars so the calculated shipping would correct to the Canadian amount not american since I deal all in Canadian. : / I feel I have an advantage against U.S sellers in the U.S with the dollar the way it is when I buy my item , as I can sell for cheap to Canada but even cheaper to the U.S. But at the same time the Canadian dollar being low is bad for just about everyone. Including me when I try to spend the money which is why I did all my spending about 2 months ago when the dollar started looking bad :D.

Anyway again thanks for all the feedback.
