Had a customer purchase 3 left handed golf clubs yesterday, which have been shipped. Received an email this morning from him apologizing as he thought they were right handed even though it was clearly stated they were left handed. I want to process a refund for him but unsure how to do it without incurring one of Ebay's wonderful defects. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Choose cancel order and then customer changed mind. You won't get a defect. I'm not sure if you automatically get your fvf back or if you have to wait for the buyer to agree. It seems to work both ways depending on the circumstances.

Hi Thanks
Would I refund through Paypal first then do what you suggested?

On the sold page there is a arrow on the far right and if you click on that you will see cancel order. When you click on cancel order I think that you see the refund option there. It's been a little while since I've done it but I'm fairly sure that I didn't have to go to Paypal at all.

Ouchie, seems Golfing has shipped the items PJ.
The buyer may have to return the items for a refund.
Not sure what happens when a Seller has shipped the item & the Buyer then requests a cancellation & a refund.

Oops..I did miss the word shipped in the OP. It should work basically the same way as I described except the buyer will have to request a return first. I suppose they could just refuse shipment but it might take even longer for the seller to get the items back.

Get the clubs back first!
Then worry about the refund, defects and violations.
While the buyer could refuse the parcel, this means that the shipping service will not be quick about the return. It is best to encourage the buyer to reship the clubs and pay for that fast return.
You can decide whether or not it is worth it to you to refund the return shipping. Remember that the standard practice has been that return postage is paid by the buyer unless the seller's error is the reason for the return, which is not the case here.
