buying and selling on eBay has become an exercise in tedium and frustration. Maybe a reason eBay growth has been flat for years is because of their near disdain for their customers. My eBay selling activities almost stopped when they started collecting fees on shipping. What exactly does eBay do to deserve making money on shipping charges for which I have NO control over??
I July 1 2016 I purchase a piece of electronic equipment from a seller that is using eBay’s Global Shipping Program, delivery ETA August 2 – 9. I’m certain most 3rd world country would’ve been able to ship an item much faster. eBay aligns itself with a company that because of its size and status has been in a permanent creative coma since the 1970’s. I’m forced to pay an extra $30.04 for this service because 2 desperate companies are forcing me to pay for a service I was not interested and provides me with NO benefit, but does provide me with a more confusing and slower service than if it had come regular USPS. Other than a snow job (not a rude term) what exactly am I getting for my $30.04? Import duties pre-payment you say? I never paid import duties on items I purchase that were shipped via USPS & Canada Post.
Most outrageous is I’m only told that I’m being forced to comply and let Pitney Bowes handle the shipping after I make a purchase. There goes my freedom of choice too.
Conclusion if my eBay buying days had almost stopped, this will certainly put the final nail in it. Also if you need to buy something online consider Amazon (I have nothing to do with Amazon) but the few times I’ve bought something through Amazon it felt less intrusive.
Needless to say if I knew what I know now I would not have made the purchase, and if I could do it fairly I would cancel the transaction in a heartbeat!!!

eBay adjusted delivery times last week to (and from) Canada on the assumption that if the shipper is using the post office it will take a LOT LONGER to deliver because CANADA POST is involved.
This effects all Canadian postal delivery times on eBay, not just those shipping through GSP.
Current status: Canada Post is planning to shutdown on Friday, July 8 until the union agrees to a new contract.

if you look at my profile I have 109 100% positive feedback that probably represents about 250 transactions, I can say pretty confidently USPS and Canada Post are very integrated, a package sent ground from most places in the continental USA should not take more than 10 days to reach its final destination assuming it's a major city. I just don't see how a ground detour to Kentucky is to my benefit??? This package went from Florida to Cincinnati OH to Erlanger, KY, if you look it up on a map Erlanger KY is going to wrong way from Cincinnati if you're trying to reach Canada.
the lack of freedom to choose also means I can't choose my preferred method of shipment. Personally I don't like to send or receive electronic equipment ground, I would have liked (in fact I asked) the package to be sent air.
If there were any recent time adjustments made by eBay, from my experience it was for self serving purposes!!!
Global Shipping Program benefits no one but eBay and Pitney Bowes. It may be good for eBay it's BAD for you!!! (buyer / seller)

Freedom of choice allows you to bypass any item that shows up in search (list view) with the subtitles denoted.
I also don't buy from sellers using the GSP but that is because I like to do my own customs brokering across the border and found, in my limited experience as a buyer using the GSP, that my items were getting wrecked or lost on repack at the Kentucky hub.

I agree !00% and now I know better, but I hadn't purchased anything from eBay in a very long time. When reading a listing it's not very clear what is happening unless you're familiar with the program either that or I'm more obtuse than most. It's only when a buyer goes to pay that we are presented with the forced option to permit Pitney Bowes to process the shipping. As a matter of fact I took a screen shot of the listing before I paid (yes, I'm a bit... ) no where does it mention anything about GSP.

Were you on a mobile device when you made the purchase? It can be harder to spot there.
At a desktop, the listing page looks like this:
