zero rating?

New to eBay, searched the site for hours picked out a few items only to be told cancelled due to zero rating?

Can't get rated unless sell/buy, seems this is a way for sellers to

get out of a low bid?  Why even let the seller state the item will be shipped once payment cleared?  Does this not guarantee payment.  Not impressed eBay!  Can't see why my money is no good because I'm not rated. Won't be wasting my time again!

zero rating?

I have on the first line of my listings....Buyers with 0 feedback MUST contact me before bidding. Why? Because I want to make sure they have a paypal account already active. It takes a week or more to get that all straightened around.....When payment is due in my case after 3 days of end of auction you may not have your account up. If you apply immediately to get a Paypal account you are ready to go and we can only take Paypal now as sellers...at least on Ebay.ca. Do they all read it....NO!!!!! So it is NOT AT ALL about getting a higher bid, it is about protecting our sales. In the last couple of months I have had 12 non paying bidders....some with 0 and some with higher feedback. When you do not pay you get a strike against your account. Three strikes and you are out. I do not want a new 0 bidder to have to go through that.  My take on it....maybe others see it differently.

Hi camp07.. Understand how you feel and not a nice introduction to eBay but the point made by molsongolden is a fair one. Sellers are coping with a proliferation of unpaid sales.

Hang in there and i'm sure you will find sellers who will not cancel your bids and build a few feedback. Buy it Now is also an option.

Most sellers will sell to buyers with zero feedback.

It is just unfortunate that you ran into one that wouldn't.

Buy a few inexpensive fixed price items and pay immediately that will get you some feedback.

Alternatively wait to the last minute of a listing before bidding and then bid you maximum and if you win pay immediately.

It is highly unlikely that a seller will refund you and refuse to sell.

You could also buy from sellers who use buy it now listings and pay right away. Before the seller sees your feedback and can even think of canceling your bid, you have bought and paid for the item. Sellers are worried about unpaid items, they're not about to try and cancel a listing that has already been paid for.
