There was once a time, many, many years ago, that fees were only charged on the price of an item sold.
That was when some sellers dropped the price of an item to about ... one dollar... and what was stated as the cost of postage in a listing included the cost of postage and the cost of the item being sold.... The fees eBay collected dropped dramatically.
That is when eBay adjusted the fee on the price of the item to also include a fee on the price of postage.
The percentage of the fee on an item was reduced when the fee on postage was added
This is why fees are applied to the cost of postage.... All fees charged by eBay are actually applied to the cost of the item.... It should be noted that this fee on postage only applies to the cost of postage for a Canadian destination, if an item is shipped outside Canada.
The fee on postage is there to prevent sellers from escaping the fee on on an item if the fee is only applied to the sold item.

Hello Tyler,
Just curious. Have the rules changed now with GTC and ending listings early? In the past you used to have to have a valid reason for ending a listing. This is no longer the case on the PC. From my understanding it does ask for a reason on the app. Just wasn't sure if there were any "repercussions" involved?
In a related question are there thoughts for 2 system verification for the PC logins? Not everyone has a smartphone or for that matter needs one for regular day to day life. (Subtly directed for the more seniorly eBay users out there. We know who we are!! ) Definitely getting to be much more critical now with all the assorted issues with folks magically getting access accounts.
And as above, thanks for all the time you spend here helping everyone was the day to day stuff we fight our way through. Greatly appreciated. All the best to you and yours and avery happy 2020!!

I couldn't agree with you more!!! I'm cancelling my store subscription on May 1 when I'm allowed, wish I could close it now. Been selling on here for over 10 years, ebay must only be for big stores and China sellers now, getting rid of the small sellers. My sales have dropped 95% since ebay has added sales tax for USA customers, that's where 95% of my customers are. I bet ebay and paypal are going to raise their fees again soon too, and probably the post office too, they raise their fees almost every year. This is a dead venue for regular people!

PS.
Do you have any updates on the Ask Andrea & Rob post from June of this year? There may be a few in there that still folks are concerned about.

How long before ebay stops ,the stealing of peoples money with there 10% fees on postage that they do nothing for ,I had stock in this company and dumped it ,I do not want to be known as a person who makes money by stealing it ,and start paying peoples paypal fees back on the money you take from taxes ,you take the money and we pay your fees ,
Hi @rudisch0_1 - welcome to the chat! You got good insight into the context behind why Final Value Fees on Shipping are charged from @cumos55. There are currently no plans to change this. Thanks!

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies - there are no changes to the way we view ending Fixed Price listings. You are able to end them as you please with no repercussions from us.
We do occasionally ask for the reason behind the ending of listings. This is for our data, it does not impact your standing with us.
Account security is something we take seriously, and so a 2-factor system is probably not something we'll see removed. You don't need a smartphone in order to log in on a PC - there should also be other ways to verify yourself (receiving a code to a landline phone, or email confirmation, etc). If you're running into issues where you don't see those options feel free to start a thread and tag me to it!
Thanks!

This is a good point @lotzofuniquegoodies - I'll work on that this week. There are a few questions I simply can't get an answer to, but I'll post what I've received!

Thanks Tyler. Got this in my email the other day which brought me to the sign in screen. It only offered by text message. Just thought an alternate solution would be of use to anyone else in the same situation.
Get a higher level of protection...
